Brook Lopez has always been a little bit of an enigma to me. I’ll never understand how a dude that big, playing center starter minutes for his career is averaging 6 rebounds per game for his career. It’s like he’s allergic to rebounds. Having said that, I wouldn’t mind him on a 2 year contract lol
His recent decline in his rebounding is due to playing on the perimeter a lot more on offense. His offensive rebounding numbers dropped massively as soon as he started shooting threes, and his overall rebounding went down from generally being around 7 per game to around 5. He's always had strangely low defensive rebounding numbers for a true 7 footer though, you're right. Not sure why that is.
Yeah. This list is seriously underwhelming. I’d rather give some current players a raise than overpay for Lopez. Dude is 35 years old.
Thats what Ime did in Boston. Harden iso never made sense, though I suppose kyrie could fit in but his bread and butter is iso. Here's a great breakdown of ime offense and defense and it gives you an idea what the roster may start to shape up to look like with some key free agents
If the Lakers are willing to take KPJ's salary, they are just going to match any offers for Reaves. Reaves and Cam Johnson are the type of guys that just fit with about anyone. Just need a couple of the young guys to make leaps to stardom in the next 1-3 seasons.
Depends on what kind of offers Reaves is getting. If somebody is crazy enough to pay him $24M next season or something, KPJ's $15M could look appealing by comparison. KPJ's contract would also give them a lot more flexibility. Still don't know how we got him to agree to basically an NFL contract.
ISO is necessary in the thick of the Playoffs but I agree the regular season do not need much of that.
Bc he was always deep mid range face up and allergic to going to the basket and boxing out. Think 90s bulls centers, namely Luc Longley. This massive but soft finesse guy that spots up from the mid/elbow/corner/pick and pop. Early Brook would have been perfect for those teams.. Making the move to the 3pt line was the perfect evolution. Luc would be out there stroking from 3 today too. I always knew he was a 20 and 6 weird stat guy for a big center, and i remember being surprised he was a good shot blocker back in the day for fantasy...but most surprising is when I started hearing he was a really good defender. I always thought well he gets blocks bc hes big but he's got slow feet and i always assumed he sucked at defense and somehow got better as he got older and the league got smaller and faster and position less. He seems like a great teammate for these young guys to have and shares a twin connection that Amen can relate to and be helped through his first year apart from his own twin.
As others have said, Lopez should be the #1 target. At his age he’s gonna be willing to take a 2yr deal and he’s one of the only centers on the market that can protect the rim and stretch the floor; and has the ability to stay on the floor with Sengun. Lopez has made over $170 mil in his career and probably wants to chase a ring, but I’d imagine it would be hard for him to say no to 2-yrs/$55 mil. I really like Bruce Brown and DiVincinzo, but if we sign either I think KPJ is gone. Those guys are high quality shooting guards and there’s just not enough minutes behind Jalen. I love the idea of backing Jalen up with a really good 3&D vet. I’m also okay with KPJ coming off the bench, but the defense remains an issue. It sure is interesting no point guards were mentioned other than a reference to the FVV buzz. Perhaps we are hoping to fill this spot through trade…which is the wise choice. I’m fine overpaying FVV, but there should be better options through trade. Love Peoltl but have become convinced that he doesn’t really fit Ime’s scheme due to his inability to switch at all on defense, can’t play with Sengun, and will cost a lot. Hachimura doesn’t make much sense for us, and there are much better options if we are going after a 4. I don’t think we have much of a chance at Reaves, Cam Johnson or even Chris Middleton, but I defer to the cap experts; I like all those players. Fascinating that Grant Williams wasn’t mentioned. It feels like Dillon Brooks is inevitable…unfortunately.
Even more interesting that Feigen went out of his way to note FVV and Harden are “media reports”, insinuating they are not part of the front office plans.
Maybe Amen is locked in at pg. Marcus Smart can't shoot and played 32mpg starting at pg for Ime. Maybe Ime wants to unlock all of amens defensive potential and just have him keeping the ball moving and doesn't need a traditional pg for his offense?
What are the penalties for not meeting the league minimum for salaries? None of the players on this list move the needle.
This team should keep running at a low cost for one more yr (2023-2024) to hold its spending power till the summer of 2024, since more FAs will be available on market at that time. As for this summer, landing 2 vets over their prime, will be fair enough, both should be ones wouldn't mind come off bench for 5-8min per game, are willing to play as role models (on n off court show their work ethic) for our kids. By selecting Amen n Cam, We've got enough talent now, our goal ain't to win more games but to allow them some time to learn fitting in ime's system, let em to compete n earn starting positions, try to click with each other… also coach n FO should waste no time to figure out - who is the alpha dog, who is more vocal in locker room, who are gym rats as well as ones are eager to win, who are outta sync n ain't belong to this pack. Only when they figure these shet out, they could decide whether this team need to sign top FAs or not, which positions gotta be enhanced, which kids gotta be send out n replace with vets.
I don’t believe the Rockets are entrenched on pursuing a PG. Sengun will be the facilitator and KPJ and Jalen will continue to start. Amen and KPJ will share facilitator duties when Sengun sits. I think we are going to go hard after Grant Williams and Reeves. If we do a front loaded 4/yr 88m contract for Reeves, I don’t think the Lakers can match, but even if they can by the rules, they won’t if its 30m in the first year.
