Ah, those are some decent college players. A little light on the All-Americans, but nothing special. Re : Smart - yeah, but Alford was the best player on that team. Smart gets it for that jumper, but Alford drilled 7 three pointers in that game, and was a consensus First Team All-American.
You need to read the article again and try to understand what Oscar meant about the 10 minutes. The same article said that is completely false. (I assume you trust that article since you quoted it. If not, there are more ... if you'd promise to read the whole thing )
whoa. i can't believe people got into a fight about an italian point guard. SJC -- I'm not sure you should continue arguing with SamFisher. He may be right sometimes, but i don't think he's ever conceded a point. So if you're looking to win this argument... i say save your breath.
YPZ: SJC, I don't know if you know it or not, has a little "thing" for me, like he does for MacBeth, and likes to follow me around and "tweak me" and then post pictures, in homage to jorge, I guess, and a smiley or two to try to rub it in. (unfortunately, he hasn't mastered the art of red-x avoidance -- try www.photobucket.com, big guy -- you're welcome!) Trust me, he doesn't have to worry about me playing his reindeer games with him.
Don't flatter yourself. yipengzhao - I agree - he loses arguments, then comes up with stuff like saying other people have a "thing" for him because he knows he cannot keep up intellectually with most people he argues with, so he needs to create some distraction from the nonsense he wrote before. That's a troll that one should not feed.
Nice argument from Sir Jackie, Easy and ragingFire. Don't always believe in experts blindly, sometimes they believe too much in their own hype and trends.
missed most of the fun here but nevertheless as a big international fan and watcher in the late 80s and 90s i would say one thing, without a doubt Schmit could have easily played in the NBA
I am late to the party, but I have heard of this guy. They call him Pozz. He has colorful hair. I kind of have an infatuation with this guy. He plays or played for the Vareese Roosters. I remember seeing this guy at the McDonalds World Championships when he played the Spurs. Pozz was on the Utah Summer League Team a few years ago.
I don't see the controversy. I bet there are dozens of guys currently playing in Europe who could contribute in the NBA. The problem is differentiating between those that can and cannot. Since the level of play is different and scouting resources are more sparse, I think scouts tend to look for the more obvious abilities, such as athleticism and youth (i.e., potential). I bet a lot of guys with less athletic ability get overlooked because scouts can't tell how well their games would translate, and it's just not worth the bet. So without it being the fault of the scouts, they're probably missing lots of guys.
This was an exibition game. We need these games so the players can get used to international rules. We were a fairly young & inexperienced team out there. That being said, that was a well oiled machine that took us apart.
hey men I am italian and i watch every game of him with his italian team, the skipper bologna,he s a competitive player and an exellent shooter and when he misses some shots he is able to score the next ones and that is his better quality but believe me he doesn t play like this every time sometimes he scores only 4-s points
they would be very crazy not to atleast ask them to come to tranning camp the rockets need a point that can shoot three pointers.I don't think i ever seen any one make A.I and everybody else on the u .s team look so bad. did you see where this dude was shooting from on a few of his shots?a;most near half court.if hes wide open I dont see him missing to much
While no poster is always right, I trust the NBA league rules to be pretty accurate. Assuming he never declared (and really even if he did), the guy was eligible for one draft- the year he turned 22. Care to find an example of a 24+ international player being drafted? I have no opinion on the player- been in China the last 2 weeks, just fixing distortions of facts of the case.
Well if you want to be a stickler about it, it depends, somewhat, on which CBA you are working under 7 years ago (guessing here, but Sabonis, Marcullonis, Schmidt -- and Carl Lewis -- and others all may have been 24 or older when first drafted). Anyway; that just strengthens the matter; the guy's been available for the taking for 7 years, at any time, at less than the cost of a draft pick. Yet all he got was a cup of coffee in a Utah summer league (i think somebody posted this in another thread). I'm inclined to trust the collective evaluation of NBA scouts and GM's that, of the hundreds or even thousands of European players they have scouted to bring over -- he's not one of the ones that was judged to be worth it. Maybe he can play, maybe he can't, I don't know Now, I'm sure my fanclub will chime in at some point; I don't really have any particular feelings on this guy one way or the other, and they can feel free to disagree -- but i trust the big boys on this one. EDIT: Oscar Schmidt lists his date of birth as 1958, and was drafted in 1984 http://www.interbasket.net/players/oscar.htm making him 26 when drafted. EDIT: for the record, Sabonis was 21, Lewis was 22 or 23 and Marcullonis was 22.
