He was hired after the offseason was over, the trade market was/is frozen, and we are entering what might be the strongest sellers market in league history. The roster Brown inherited is what he’s stuck with until July. And really we will only be able to judge him relative to other teams and what they do at the deadline, not against what previous Astros GMs did, considering how different his situation is.
Scott is a LOT better than Stanek; Scott’s FIP this season is lower than any Astros RP. Plus Scott comes with an additional season of control.
Cubs are saying they plan to be buyers unless they totally collapse. Might have to take Bellinger, Stroman, Smyly, Leiter, and Fulmer off the wish list. This trade market is looking like garbage.
That's what a lot of us have been saying when people are clamoring for moves. It takes 2 to make a trade, and between the extra Wild Card spots and the fact that both centrals are steaming horses**t, everybody thinks they still have a chance. There's probably 4 teams who are willing to sell right now (OAK,KC,WSH,COL). A couple of teams will likely fall far enough off to sell by the deadline, but it probably won't be many unless one of the teams in the central gets hot and pulls away.
Brent Suter from the Rockies shouldn't cost much and could help the pen...LHP who's been good against both L/R hitters the past few years. There's really not much on any of those 4 teams that moves the needle.
Need Detroit to be sellers. They have some arms that could be useful and at the very least add some inventory to the market. Lorenzen, Eduardo Rodriguez, and Jose Cisnero could all be moved if they are sellers.
What are the chances the Mets blow it up if they continue to fall out of it? Would be crazy if they ended up trading Max or JV.
I don’t see them, the Padres, Yankees or the Phillies blowing it up mid season. The price of being a big money team is you live with these decisions and hope players who are paid heavily, with track records, can find the perfect combination of health and performance that can be there some years… and not so much other years. All of those teams were in the playoffs last year. Have essentially the same (if not more stacked) teams this year. This is how it goes…
Sell: Maton, Neris, Stanek Buy: Multyear veteran BoR SP, Multiyear high leverage RP, versatile lefthanded bat
Why would we want him back? He kinda seems like an oldass run-of-the-mill pitcher now. If the Mets are trading pitching, then I want David Robertson, ASAP After him, you know who has the 2nd best ERA in the Mets bullpen? Brooks Raley (2.77). I'd take him too (but I'd rather have Ottavino)
