He's so convinced that he won't matter that Givony, himself, had him as #6 going into last night's draft. Givony and Woo combined to do a completed mock draft on Tuesday morning that had him being picked at 9 by the Jazz. He goes 20, and now he wants to tell you how they knew it all along.
Yeah, I liked how he tried to say "we sniffed out this slide and were dropping him on our mock drafts". But the scouting report is fair - he didn't stand out like a lottery pick should, and knee cartilage is not something you mess with in the NBA (ask Tracy McGrady). #20 is probably not as unreasonable as people think.
There's a certain follow-the-herd mindset among GMs, too. They don't want to grab a guy others have passed on because there just has to be a reason, right? Good thing Stone had spent considerable time with Cam and knew enough about him to make an informed decision. I trust his opinion on this particular player much more than those of the GMs who never got to meet him or work him out and decided to pass.
Givony had him as the 6th best prospect on his last big board. So even by his standards getting him at 20 is still a major win.
Reminds of the drafting game we do here, we try to trade but most of us had their No 10 board and are somewhat passive to trade or want the farm thrown at us.
