So many assets thru picks or somewhat with the players I think Rockets should keep. Sengun Green jabari Eason Porter jr Cam Amen After those 7 players , everyone should be available to upgrade the roster, to many young players aren't needed and they probably will be out of rotation soon anyways , trade while there's some value
Completely agree Veteran/Amen Green/KPJ Veteran/Whitemore Jabari/Tari Sengun/Veteran This should be our roster next season and anybody else should be trade for additional cap space and minutes for vets
At this point this team needs to find like 6 core young guys and have the rest of the roster be vets. The young guys need to learn how to play in some semblance of structure. So ya guys like TyTy, Garuba , KJ Martin Jr and Josh are very expendable now
Every superstar heavy team has to be calling the Rockets right now, we have solid depth pieces on rookie deals. Suns, Lakers, Mavs, Bucks, Clippers, Celtics I'll take future firsts and veteran salary dumps that can come off the books next year as well.
. I'm thinking our excess young guys are more suited to be traded to teams like the Nets, Raptors, Jazz, below mid teams that are on the verge of biting the bullet and going full on tank that have some decent vets that don't work well with tanking. None of our young guys especially the young guys at the end of the bench who don't get consistent playing time like TyTy are probably helping a win now mode team win now.
I'm to the point where if we sign a veteran point guard or wing player I would add KPJ to the "get rid of" list. If we don't sign a veteran at those three positions we probably have room for him on the roster, but then I wonder what we're spending the rest of our money/assets on. Just a backup center and future picks?
Adding to this: I am coming around to the idea of adding Paul George for KPJ, 2 of Garuba/Tate/Christopher/KMJ/Nix/TyTy and a few seconds at most. Idk if that's remotely tempting for the Clippers but they could get something back for a player that's probably opting out of his PO.
Biggest issue I see is we're going to need to find veterans who buy in on playing here. That's why overpaying in free agency may be the easiest route, because it's the player's choice to sign and he knows what he's getting into. In trades, I might target journeymen, guys with a bit more experience than our core but aren't yet in the later stages of their career desperate to win a ring. Daniel Gafford, Tyus Jones, players like that.
Honestly, for PG, you'd probably have to give up some lottery picks along with that. KPJ can be more than a decent role player. The issue is this team needs vets and not just vets, vets that have been apart of winning organizations. KJ Martin looks to have a trajectory of a good 3 and D guy. But he has no experience in how to win consistently in the NBA. Hence why someone like KJ is a high likelyhood of being traded. Because other teams would be actually interested in KJ and the other team has something the Rockets need right now in a experienced high quality vets.
Problem is that players you don't think are core for the Rockets are also not going to be valued highly by other teams. They're at best minor assets for teams looking to dump some salary or get something for an expiring they don't want to re-sign. I'm not saying we shouldn't be trading them, just that don't expect much from them.
I know it’s a business and hard decisions have to be made about players, but I get the feeling the Rockets as an organization feel a commitment towards KPJ. It might look bad if they put all this effort into reforming a player (mentally), getting his life back on track, consistently praise him, and then dump him. At 18M he’s on a pretty team friendly contract for his skill set. He’s probably our best shooter right now and has the “it” factor. Bare minimum he could be a championship 6th man or 3rd fiddle guy. I don’t want us to trade him unless we truly get talent. For PG? What has PG done since Indiana? He’s not the same player he was 10 years ago. Sengun could prob get him a lot of great screens which is how he seems to score most his points these days. But other than that, does he still have the ability to create off the dribble and drive? Seems slower, as expected at his age.
Yup,... first step was to clean the books and accumulate talent. Would've been nice if we did a better job developing them but all is not lost Next step is to develop, create the right culture, consolidate. I know people here have been saying we should've been doing this already, but I think we've been doing things in the right order and at the right time. We have tons of talent to build around and develop. Heck, even some of the new guys might play a bit in the G-League for the first half of the season. Hopefully we make the correct consolidation choices and use our cap space wisely, but so far I've been really happy with the tear-down rebuild
Totally agree that is the top 10. Would like TyTy, Garuba and at least 2 very experienced vet min guys to be 11-14. Last roster spot can be whoever is not traded between Tate, KMJ, and JC.
