And Cheney is widely assumed to be the brains of the Bush-Cheney team. Bush of course had only his pitiful couple of years as governor in a the weak governor system of Texas. Best known for the last minute tax break (so he could claim some accomplishment) that has left the Texas budget in bad shape and led to a 23% increase in Texas college tuitions.

Another sort of shameless hipocritical charge by the chickenhawks who shamelessly try to attack Kerry's vastly superior record as war hero.

Donna Brazille hits it OUT OF THE PARK

    (From the diaries -- kos)
I'm waiting on the transcript, but a moment ago Donna Brazille killed the "John Kerry was an indistinguished as a Senator" meme.

In the "rapid fire" section of Crossfire she said the following to a Republican Strategist...

"Dick Cheney was in the house for over a decade. How many bills did he pass?"

The Republican Strategist paused, looked physically ill, then tried to change the subject by saying "Well, he was aknowledged as a leader."

There was laughter in the crowd.

But Brazille didn't let him go. She leaned forward and very calmly told the truth.

    "2 bills".

2 bills for Cheney. 57 for Kerry.

    Code blue! Code Blue!

Um... never mind... play taps, 'cause the meme is dead.

Off-topic, but President Clinton said something to the effect of college tuition being up in the U.S. 35% since 2001.

Did tax cuts in Texas cause tuition to go up in the other 49 states, as well?

And why is tuition up about 100% or more since 1990 when we weren't out cutting taxes? If cutting taxes raises tuition, then raising taxes should lower tuition. When was the last year tuition went down?

I don't know about the rest of the country, or remember exactly what Clinton said, but I'm damn glad we bought into the Texas Tomorrow (or whatever it's called) fund for my two kids the first year it came out. Tuition has gone up so much, so quickly, that they closed the fund to new participants, and that's after trying to raise it's cost to cover the increases. For those who don't know, the Texas Tomorrow Fund pays 100% of your kid's tuition for any state university, and applies the maximum amount that would go towards that state university to help pay for a private one anywhere in the country. (don't know if it works overseas) It's turned into a hell of a deal for us. Our kids are 8 and 13, and it will pay no matter how much tuition goes up before they go to a university.

Cheney would be a joke if he didn't have so much power. He frightens me.

Deckard I also bought the Texas Tomorrow Fund. I understood it pays the average Texas state school tuition toward private schools. This could be qute a bit less than UT's for instance.

You're probably right, glynch. I haven't checked the details in a long time. Even at that rate, it's going to help immensely towards a private school. Hey, we look pretty brilliant right now, don't we? :)

Deckard, the best investment I've made in the last few years. I got in barely a year ago and already I've made (saved) 23% tax free guaranteed by the State of Texas.

Mr. Paige, as conservos used to say back in the day. "There is no such thing as a free lunch". When you cut revenues you run deficits unless you cut expenditures. (Ignoring the propaganda of the so called "supply side" bs.) With the State running short of money they have to raise tuitions. UT revenues are composed basically of state money, including endomwment revenue plus tuition. Tuition money has to increase when state contributions fall unless you want the budget and quality at UT to fall. Not that complicated.

Note I mention UT tuition because conservos seemingly could care less about massive cuts in health care for poor kids of Texas or mental health etc. Just trying to mention something that might interest them. Kids and the mentally ill should just nut it up and take responsibility for themselves under their version of Christianity.
