Lost valuable playoff games because Mazzulla was inexperienced.

But I guess they felt the need to blow it up in a small manner.

Ok. I missed the first round picks..........that is intriguing.

Tyus seemed like a 1 year rental.

Was the heart and soul of that team, always made clutch plays, super durable, plus defender...not going to be easy to replace.

Not sure Porzingis can replace even half of what he brings at all tbh but I guess the Celtics might make more moves.

I updated my post above, I missed that they get 1st round picks back.....soften the blow.

My explanation is that the Celtics feel they have more time to win a title.......planning with younger players.

Derrick White is pretty much smart's replacement. His role just gets elevated. Still have Brogdon as the primary 6th man.

Either horford or williams comes off the bench for KP. Or 2 of the 3 bigs off the bench when they want to play small ball

With the revised deal, I thought the Celtics would have been able to keep Gallinari in addition to getting Porzingis. That would be a ridiculously deep team.

    This.

The Celtics head coach is an offensive minded coach and this is a move for his style of coaching.

There is a massive offensive upgrade with this deal and the Celtics identity and culture will change some as well.

This trade will surprise a lot of people, but White is a better overall player and the Celtics have thought about moving Smart for at least a couple years. He brings a lot defensively and he plays hard - but offensively he is a dud.

This is a rare deal good for everyone. Smart will likely help set the tone and get minutes with Morant out.

The Celtics get the offensive weapon they wanted - Tatum/Brown/Porzingas on the floor together will be a nightmare to stop.

The Wizards move on from a player they didn’t want - they get a draft pick and will likely get another #1 when they decide to trade Tyus Jones, who is a pretty useful back up guard that just doesn’t turn the ball over.

The Celtics will miss Smart’s toughness and attitude. But it didn’t make much sense for two players as good as Derrick White and Brogdon to be sitting on the bench.
