What an epic fail by the Wizards. Max Beal, give him a no trade clause, only to dump him a year later after missing out on the Wemby tankathon!! They would have been better off letting him walk, sheesh.
this is a worse version of the Nets Big 3 with no depth I feel like PHX would’ve been better off trying to stock up on role players to surround KD and Booker…they need the Bruce Brown and KCP types on the roster
Houston won 60 games with 2 guys on max contracts who play the same position. Having said that, it is still odd to see Beal and Booker on the same team. Basically PHX got Beal for free - so I guess no big deal. See how it plays itself out. Both Beal and Booker are decent passers for SGs, but this feels like a Clippers scenario without the defence.
This is interesting, I wouldn't mind Houston trying to pick up RoCo or Batum as a backup 4, if either are salary fillers here. Weird situation with EG, have to imagine he'd be a filler, if not waived to save cap
Yea, Booker and Beal have enough of a handle to masquerade as a PG. There should be good enough spacing between the 3 of them that neither has to be the sort of elite playmaker CP3 was in his prime. Either way this is a steal of a deal if the owner is willing to pay for this team. I'm not the biggest Beal fan but they got him for the corpse of Chris Paul and some backwash.
Wiz could flip Paul to the Clippers for Covington + Batum and a minimum contract (Preston or Boston) or maybe take a look at Hyland. Perhaps they could weasel a couple of 2nds out of them as well
They still have Cam Payne, right? I mean, he's not brilliant, but off the bench to play the 'rest' minutes for both of Booker and Beal. Essentially they can play for 32 minutes each, and only overlap for 16 minutes of on-court time (their other 16 minutes is as primary scorer with Payne facilitating). And then there's KD. Seems at least somewhat dangerous.
Beal isn't worth 50 million a year, Beal wasn't good enough or healthy enough to get the Wiz in contention for a play-in seed... I think this was a great move for Washington
I wonder what kind of return they would want for him? We should offer pick 20, Garuba, Tate and KJMjr (and maybe TyTy). Although it looks pretty bad at first glance, the return gives them 3 rookie scale contracts, and 2 guys who are rotation worthy. Ayton is a horrid contract, but if we are getting him for that price, it feels like it is for free anyway... see what return we can get from him in a year or 2.
Nope, not if he isn't worth his contract He's a better player than Shamet and 2nds, of course. Wizards are still better off with nothing over keeping him at 50 mill per year just to host the worst one of the worst treadmill teams of all time, totally adequate value. Shamet is NG after this year, essentially expiring filler.
