I think projectors are great. Light weight (~8 lbs), very portable, and I mounted one to a wall in my apartment. I used mine to project Texans games on my wall, giving me like a 90" screen. But I don't know how possible it is to get one in the $1200 price range that does HDTV. What resolution is that anyway? Plus, SDTV doesn't look that great on my projector . But for DVDs, it's awesome.

I would strongly disagree as the cable providers would have to get these channels for it to work since most people have cable. I can't imagine the Rockets even thinking about going forward with this knowing that only people with satellites could watch. There are way too many people in apartments, condos, etc that are not even able to get a satellite dish. This channel can still work if its carried on cable and not satellite, but I don't think the reverse is true.

Here in San Diego the Padres have a cable channel that every single cable provider (Including Time Warner) carry, but neither of the Satellite companies carry the channel.

You can definitely get them in that range ... A buddy of mine at work got an LCD projector that does HD for $999 so you just have to shop around.

Due to the cost of the bulbs though he only uses it for HD and DVDs. Apparently if you go with a projector, the best option is to use a regular TV for SDTV. It seems like too much of a hassel to me .. thats why I went with the rear projection TV.

90" sure does sound nice though :D

Sony doesn't have rights to DLP technology. Only Samsung, LG, and i want to say RCA have dlp.

I think for the best size, price, quality, and durability, go with DLP. Plasma has burn in and LCD Flat panels over 30 inches are hard to find and expensive.

but rear projection sounds like the way to go if i were u

Sony has the Grand WEGA III.

But nothing beats DLP. I researched the RCA and LG, but Samsung was far superior.

I've got a 51 inch Sony rear projection widescreen. I was having a tough time deciding between that, a Sony Grand Wega, or a DLP. In the end I decided to save a little money and spend it on a home theatre system. At first I was dissapointed with the picture, but after about a week the picture really improved. Apparently it can take a little time for projection tv's to get broken in.

My Bad ... You are right ... the Sony Grand Wega is an LCD rear projection

Nevertheless ... Still a great combination of screen size, TV Depth, and picture quality.

I've not seen any of the other brands DLP rear projections .. are they comparable? A lot more expensive?

The Samsung DLP is more expensive than the RCA and LG.

But, absolutely worth every single dollar. HD and DVD content on DVI is stunning on this TV!

Wow. I had no idea. I just did a quick Google search and saw that Toshiba's DLP TVs have integrated ATSC and QAM tuners!

    Beats the Samsung!
