how were the bucks 3 and d? that's guys like paul george, they didn't have anyone like that. I agree about jokic though, he's incredibly unique and so historically great that looking at him as a model is silly, similar to looking at curry and trying to build around someone like trae
How many contending teams were that was built around a passing big in the last ten years? ZERO until this year. No wonder that team construction did not win a championship. This was the first year, Denver had a decent team around Jokic that stayed healthy and they won it. The championship came despite they did not have a 3rd star. Honestly it is quite a coincidence that there were no other teams good enough to exploit that, so Denver was lucky in that sense. The implication is that passing center-guard combo is a very strong construction and having the second player in the league to play that, we should ask ourselves 1) how much value does the passing big-guard combo play produce? 2) Is it better than the other type of centers and how much of it comes from construction and how much of it comes from Jokic's greatness? 3) How much less of a center will be enough to build a contending team I am a big proponent of this construction, and I think a rockets team having Sengun, as a lesser version of Jokic, with a better version MPJ, who almost was a complete junk in the playoff run, can easily be a contender. The other big lesson I got from watching Jokic in the playoffs is, his biggest strength is the combination of shooting well from 5-10 ft and excellent passing, That opens up so much for the team. In that respect, Sengun should developing a reliable 5-10ft floater/shot should be a priority to developing a 3 pt shot. It is not one or the other anyway but I have seen a lot more emphasis on the 3pt shot, that's why I am mentioning it.
Again -- go back and glance at team 3 point shooting and team defense over the last decade plus. Go look at who won the championship each one of those years and then try to connect the dots. This is ridiculously simple in the same way that stating a team needs a top 10 player in the league to win meaningful games. These are not mutually exclusive thoughts.
Joker is 7'1 280 vs 6'9 with short arms. Tell me how you're going to get over that hurdle without a trade of drafting a guy who can atleast deter Joker? Sengun has a skillset that will work offensively, but what about defensively?
it's a little different now because there's no super team warriors anymore, so it will open up different ways to win. A team like the bucks would have gotten completely slaughtered by the warriors (or the 21 nets) but were able to win against regular teams
Denver was able to hide Jokic on defense and at the same time Jokic has become 'better' at angles and just getting in the way. If we are seriously going to expect 30/20/10 stat lines from Sengun in playoff games then it should be easy. Fill the staff with great 3 point shooters that can switch everything on defense. In this case you dont even need to go looking for a "pure PG" just make sure you have complimentary scoring particularly from wide open shooters. That would be most important if the team is going to run all the offense through Sengun.
Joker is listed at 6'11, I believe. I agree, he looks huge. But tbh, not sure how long his knees will make it.
You post constantly against a Euro in your team, support it by going against the Euro mvp and feel the need to mention that the poster you are responding to is a Euro.
Call me crazy but I think he would have at least one such game this season if given the opportunity (if we run the offense through him like Denver does with Jokic).
Don't know about a 30/20/10 but 20/15/15 is quite in the horizon, given the opportunity. Or 30 points 10 assists 5+ offensive rebounds. Sengun is just not the one-man for defensive rebounds and it is really not that important.
I guess I could say that if Giannis doesnt get hurt vs Miami and if MIL/Den would have been the Finals matchup that AT LEAST it would have provided for a more competitive Finals. Same for either BOS/PHI -- Miami went supernova from 3 to start the playoffs with a team of backups and finally cooled down at the worst possible time. Some of that was Denver playing sell out defense on shooters too though I acknowledge that. The Finals played out pretty much how I expected them to. Y'all are mad at me because GS broke the sport!
Ime gonna lose his mind when he see how bad senshit is on defense. They’re gonnna ship his ass out and his lover boys can follow
Ya miami was a mediocre team that went on the luckiest shooting run ever probably, some of the stuff they did probably will never happen again. Definitely would have been more interesting seeing denver play a real team
If if's and buts were candies and nuts. I can only hope for the brotherhood of this place that Udoka gives Sengun every opportunity to reach the lofty heights some of you guys have placed at his feet. No excuses moving forward (hopefully).
Just can't imagine what it's like to constantly view a 20 year old who's shown promise through such a negative lens, it's gotta be exhausting.
The irony is 90% of the pushback of Sengun is a result of Sengun fans putting down our other young promising players specially Green and Jabari which is frustrating given how much Sengun relies on Green to be efficient.
