Truth be told, I don't think that ANYONE has enough under their hood to play this game at it's highest settings. I read on GameSpot that the developers recommend a graphics card with 512 MB DDR3....which to my knowledge aren't even out yet! I'm still going to enjoy the hell outta this game though....I saved up and bought a 9800 XT a couple of months ago, and although I won't be able to set up all of the shadows, etc. I'll still enjoy it.
There is no way I can buy this game, I'm spending WAAAAY too much time on Planetside and Star Wars Galaxies to invest anymore time in something else.
Granted, I only have a GeForce TI4600 video card, but damn, this must be the best looking game I've EVER played (and I just finished Far Cry, too). Lots of sweet animation and little details that totally make the game rock. Hell, it looks absolutely incredible, and I have everything set to low! I can't even fathom what the "Ultra" setting looks like... The game itself is pretty good, too. Standard FPS with a few new spins on the genre. (I like that you can kill people with your flashlight. ) I highly recommend this game. (Just don't play it alone.) Severe Rockets Fan - What's your character in Planetside? What server? What faction?
I'm DrunkTomAce on Markov(TR), D2A. SmoochHeil on Markov(NC), 666th. and SRF on Emerald(VS). They're BR/CR 20/2, 15/2, and 11/1, respectively. You have some characters on PS?
AHHHH!!! This game is pretty, but it sucks. We're gonna look back on this next year and laugh at how cheesy it looks. Also cheesy: cheap use of shadows to make the game unecessarily more difficult (enraging difficult, not the fun kind.) Guess I'm saving my money for HL2. God bless you, Suprnova!
Damn the game look totally gorgeus. THe only problem right now it's running pretty chunky! I'm running Pentium 4 3ghz with 512dual ram. A Sapphire 9600xt 256ram and still it's so darn chunky!! Yeah I crank it to high but and its still chunky but at Ultra High it's even more chunky!! Man I don't really want to go out and spend $500 for a 9800xt. They gonna need some new patch to make this run much smoother. This game ain't for everyone if they like to crank up the details. I don't think this game AI is anywhere as good as Half Life 2 when it does get release. BUt lookin good so far.
well the point of the game is to scare you isn't it? You need shadows for that...i think it works quite well in the "inducing terror" department.
Hmmm... I'm the complete opposite. I'm RainierWolfcastle on TR Emerald (Unity), RAINIER on NC Emerald (Liberty), and RainierWolfcastle on VS Markov. I've played the game for over a year now, and I just canceled my subscription, effective 8/25. The announcement of giant freaking robots was the last straw (among other major disappointments).
Just finished the first level Mars City Underground. Well, wasn't that scary. The jump out factor wasn't really there. I guessed I was prepare for it. The game play isnt totally innovated. It's just shoot and shoot. So far the weapns in teh first level isn't that cool. Hopefully there will be some cool weapons. I mean I saw the Half Life demo and was totally blown away. You could push and shoot stuff and use other objects around you against your enemies but so far Doom doesn't incorporate that but it does have a tank for you to blow up. Had fun at the beginning shooting my own guys. Overall so far the game is ok but hopefully it's going to be more fun. If the levels keeps on being the same then it's going to be pretty boring.
Well it is bascially a remake of the first Doom so if you know what weapons were in the first one... I wouldn't expect too much more from this one.
I find Castle Wolfenstein was a much better game play then this but I guessed it got a much better setting. Castle Wolfenstein got pretty cool characters and weapons.
Crap. I can't figure out how to get into the Alpha Lab! I know I need access, but I don't know where to get it. Help!
Yeah I had a real problem with teh first level running around in circles trying to see what I'm missing. What level is this Alpha Lab?
Man, this game is actually scary - the first time I ran into "Pinky" was pretty intense. If anyone is interested: Comp Specs: XP 3200 H.T. 9800 pro 128 mb 1 gig Corsair XMS Running the game smooth at 1024 x 768 HIGH Detail.
Hey great, maybe you can help with my FINAL computer decision. Looks like I'll get the new S series Vaio...either the S150 or S170. THe only difference is that the S170 is only available through Sony since it's customizable, whereas the S150 is available almost everywhere for a good $200-$300 less than what Sony sells for. Only thing is I can't decide whether I really do think the 9700 Radeon with 64 MB is a good buy or not. I don't really plan on playing games (that could change); basically for internet, e-mail, word and streaming/live video (which is more off the processor. THe S150 comes standard with the 9200 Radeon with 32 MB. I just have to decide if I want the 9700 or not. If not, then I'll just go for the 9200 which means the S150 is a better deal. The S150 through sony is $2036 (after tax and shipping) and the S170 (with 9700) is nearly $2150. The S150 elsewhere ranges anywhere from $1830-$1870 (and higher, but I'm avoiding them). So should I just go ahead and get the S150 or spend the extra $300 or so on a ridiculously powerful laptop that probably still won't even play DOOM3. Not that it's necesary. Thanks a lot in advance for anyone with info!
