they were fired for confronting three men in masks and hoods.

"were terminated for knowingly violating our zero-tolerance policy related to physically engaging with the perpetrators which put their lives and the safety of our guests and other employees at risk"

lose merch which cost $2 to make or pay out millions because employees or customers are hurt/die. easy decision.

They didn't get fired for calling the cops, they were fired for confronting the criminals, those are the rules they signed up for. You can replace merch, you cant replace people

they were gonna lose their jobs anyway when the company shuts down that location due to theft losses. if you asked me Lululemon saved them some time and aggravation ;)

Petty thieves are now aware that it's open season at Lululemon.

If I'm an employer the last thing of want is the liability of an employee being murdered over 20 dollars worth of merch.

Is this not a capitalism maximizing profits thing?

If you want to admonish them for violating policy that's one thing, but employees shouldn't be fired for not standing idle while crime is happening in right front of them. Good for them for taking a stand.

This is what every major company's policy on theft is - not because they support theft. But because chasing a criminal puts the employee in danger. It's a risk for the employee, and it's a risk for the company. If the employee gets hurt, there's a very real chance they sue the company.

It's funny to see people who know nothing about corporate policies see a youtube video and fake outrage - or even worse, have real outrage over policiies that are universal and have existed for decades for good reason. Everything is "woke" to idiots who know nothing about the world, I guess.

If I'm a business owner that wants to maxamize return on investment then no I don't want my employees to do a damn thing besides hide and call the police when it comes to a robbery.

Business owners aren't pinko commies. They need profit. They ain't going to risk paying the liability claims of a gunshot wound of an employee over some stretchy pants.

I understand the logical reason for it, and rationally agree that the employees should not be responsible to prevent theft for their own safety.

It's just Lululemon's handling of the firing and this negative publicity is advertising that they will not stop you for shoplifting. They'll probably get targeted a lot more.

If it's a zero tolerance policy, then just obey it. I know we have some of those in my company and I obey them in order to avoid putting myself in a situation where I can get fired.

If you guys want, we can discuss the policy and whether you agree with it or not, that's fine. The agenda that @J.R. and @tinman are trying to push here though, is as usual, pretty ****ing lame.

They can't help if it the media spins ****. It's a zero tolerance policy. I'm pretty sure a lot of you guys have zero tolerance policies in place at your place at work.

And that's why zero tolerance policies are terrible.

A better way to handle this is to tell the employees that while their protectiveness of the brand is appreciated, the policy to not confront thieves is in place for their safety. They will still have to be written up for violating that policy. Firing them on the spot makes the company look worse for not supporting its employees.

After having just watched the video, it's even more ridiculous that the employees were fired. One filmed the thieves, the other told them to get out. Neither physically engaged with the thieves. Zero tolerance for the win, I guess.

Omg, it's even worse. The official statement is they were fired for calling the police. So Lululemon doesn't even want authorities involved.
