I agree with the statement below from @napalm06 : I think Lucas belongs in a consultant/player development role given his relationships with so many players across the league and potential free agents.
That role may be more of a front office job. I have always assumed that John Lucas would have a Rockets front office job, if he wanted it.
I agree. Lucas is a legend and is respected across so many generations of NBA players. I think it would be foolish to let him go. If there isn't a place for him on the coaching staff, get him into the front office somewhere.
Assistant coaches all have to go. Not one player got better. Somehow we managed to make undrafted Nix fatter, lazier, coddled and worse. And the basketball iq of all our guards is bad. Start over man
With Silas it's never "make" but always "allowed"! I don't know if Lucas was on board with the "Silas method" or just "swimming against the grain" and couldn't do it all himself but I sure hope we keep "Cool Hand Luke" with the organization in some capacity! But I also admit to having a soft spot for him from all my memories of him as a Rocket over the years. In the end though you've got to let Ime assemble the staff he wants. Unless he asks for Becky Hammo..........no, won't finish joke.
People who take this job just have to accept that it comes with John Lucas and Keith Jones. Sort of like that house I bought where the previous owners buried their grandma in the back yard and you aren’t allowed to move her. You aren’t real happy about it, but at that price, you just accept it.
Move Lucas to front office. Make Borrego lead assistant Keep Abdelfattah under Borrego as offensive mind Bring in Boston guys. Good.
One more thing. Hire Mr. T as a full time Motivational Speaker / Ass Whooper. Every time one of these young guys F's up he climbs up their ass. He'll be able to reach them because of the gold chains, F'd up hair and generally salty attitude. They respect that $hit.
I pity the fool that slacks on defense! I pity the fool that takes ill-advised contested jumpers! I pity the fool that puts Josh Christopher in a corner!
Hearing that Borrego is close to signing with the Bucks. Looks like Lucas will have a prominent role on the bench. Hard to dislike Lucas as he puts so much effort into coaching these kids.
A shooting coach and two player enhancement coaches. Aaron Miles is more experienced. He has head coaching experience in college and G-League. Was on the Warriors player development staff. Would be good to get him too. Still want to see them lock up a lead assistant who specializes in offensive x's and o's. Would be awesome to get Borrego though I read he may be close to joining the Bucks.
