Bima Thug knows his stuff and is one I respect on this board. He’s 100% right, but I am still hopeful of a splash addition to the staff (Borrego). If not, then expect Lucas and potentially Mouhammad to round out a much better staff than last year’s staff.
I don't agree with this. Ime picked who HE trust. WE don't know what dynamics and bonds are behind those curtains.
This is key. Why would Ime want a potential replacement on his bench? This isn’t the Celtics. We aren’t trying to win a Championship next season. This is just the first step in building a culture and Ime needs to be the absolute head of that culture reset.
That is some major loyalty displayed by Sullivan, Miles and Moser....... going from a team that went to the Finals and ECF, in an organization with Tatum and Brown ---- to the worst team in the league the last three seasons .......... Udoka most be incredibly charismatic.
Unless they've already heard through the grapevine that there will be a total or near-total coaching turnover in Boston this offseason?
There were some red flags with Silas. First, Carlisle spoking glowingly of his other assistants that left for head coaching jobs and even pushed for them to get jobs. He didn't really do that for Silas. In fact all we heard was that Silas was really liked as a man and paid his dues. The other red flag was that Silas did not design the offense in Dallas, that was Carlisle and he stepped in and tweaked it when it would go off course. On the other end - Daryl Morey almost hired Silas years early to be the HC, and Silas can talk a good game when needed to. Silas will always have a job as an assistant in the NBA, but he isn't going to be designing anyone's offense.
He was therefore them the same way an uncle is. He watched them practice, opened the gym and rebounded their misses.... when they had a tough practice, he would take them out for ice cream. When the first thing people in the industry says about your head coach is that he is a "good dude" - then you know you are ****ed.
Alongside any potential rumblings that they might already be out of a job in Boston, I could see the appeal for coaches to come in on an organization full of young talent ready to develop. I'd imagine if the coaching is successful and we do blow up a bit that that would be a great thing to have on your resume being one of the architects of the success.
I think at the end of the day, all three guys were "Udoka/Oregon Guys", not "Boston Guys". All of them were personally brought into the organization by Udoka, and its notable that Mazzulla is a "Brad Stevens Guy", the only holdover from the old regime. We wouldn't blink twice if the organization was named "Google" rather than "Celtics": Acquire a hot startup technology, led by a cult-of-personality CEO and a small but loyal management team who all overlapped at the same university. Add a long term company manager/lifer to their team to assist in continuity and assimilation. Lose the #2/COO of the old management team after he leaves to work on his own startup, which finds immediate success. Dump the founder/CEO of the acquired company for actual cause. Promote the long term tenured employee added to the management team to lead, even though they have no relationship to the majority of the project team. Maintain the status quo/glide path of the acquired tech with the manager in place, but cracks start to show, and they miss a key deadline. Old CEO announces he's starting a new company in an untested field. Majority of old management team working under a leader they don't 100% trust, leave the cushy, apex of industry job for a brand new opportunity under old CEO. That being said, the situation was not exactly Mazzulla's fault; you're simply not going to be able to staff up properly in September, and he has a full offseason to bring in his own guys who share his own vision for the team. He won with a staff set up to complement Udoka; you can't just remove the centerpiece of the staff and expect all of the other pieces to fill in.
True. I was reading about these guys the other day and came across this which is insane. Like a Portland-area fetish. Lol. : As Udoka’s staff starts to take shape. there is one common thread - Portland, Oregon. Udoka went to Jefferson High in Portland. Ben Sullivan? Grew up in nearby Lake Oswego. Aaron Miles? Jefferson High School in Portland. The Boston Globe reported the Rockets may have interest in Celtics assistant Mike Moser, a player enhancement coach. Where’s Moser from? You guessed it, Grant High School in Portland, Oregon. What about Garrett Jackson? Westview High School, Portland, Oregon. Udoka’s biggest name assistant in Boston was Damon Stoudamire, now the head coach at Georgia Tech. Where’s “Mighty Mouse” Stoudamire from? Of course, also Portland.
They definitely are following Arnold into the jungle with no fear. I like them for it and I love Ime for the ability to make it happen.
I think Lucas belongs in a consultant/player development role given his relationships with so many players across the league and potential free agents. I've only heard positive things about Abdelfattah, but I don't know anything about him. Can you elaborate on why you think he doesn't belong on a bench?
John Lucas being considered I know we want out with old regime, but to me he's a keeper for our young core
