The Pistons made history splashing that dough around.....it was reported as the largest coaching deal in history......hahaha
Wth are they smoking over there in Detroit? They locked Monty down like he’s coach Pop…like he was the hottest coach on the market…like he’s the best and brightest Idk what type of sweet nothings Monty was whispering in their ear, but this is looking like the catfish of the century right here
People have been meme'ing for how much of a joke the Kings and Knicks are, but when you look at Detroit's record since Flip left, they haven't been any better.
Yup it's less to do with competition, more to do with going to Pistons. Monty's head coaching record is at risk when he goes to a rebuild. So he's compensated for it. That said he was a culture re-setter for the Suns and imo was a better / safer bet than the Weaver's other finalists. This looked to be a more of an owner hire than a GM hire. They paid a lot for Monty, but it could be investment well spent. Monty is an upgrade over Casey. HOU's competition with Detroit to climb out of the tank is definitely ON for pivot year.
WTF? Ha ha ha. Ok well I guess they will enjoy being 48-34 every year. Lebron won't be there to save them and KD ain't no Lebron. If you are hiring Vogel, I would have just taken Budenholzer instead. The Suns screamed for Nurse. I am surprised they did not jump at him.
Suns was 13th in DEF RTG last season; they had some roster turnover, let's see if their DEF improves next season. I'm also interested to see if Ayton would be different. As far as new head coaches picking their own assistants: Few front-runner assistants for HC didn't get the gig and with a regime change, they could be on the MOVE. Are they interested in being Rockets' assistants? Suns: Kevin Young, if he doesn't go to Pistons with Monty; how about to HOU? Work with Green and do what he did with Booker. Bucks: Charles Lee. Lee passed over by Bucks for Raptor's assistant Adrian Griffin. Bud doesn't have a gig, come work with Sengun and Jabari.
13th in Defensive Rating is pretty good actually. I don't think Vogel is going to be able to fix "old man" CP3 and "play when I feel like it" KD. We saw this happen in Indy with Paul George.
13th is not bad; but I think Suns thought of themselves as an elite contender, so having top 10 is probably preferred. Plus with KD and Booker already elite on offense, part of me thinks the Vogel hire is for them to improve their defense. Maybe they will, maybe they won't; but I'm thinking that's one of the big reasons they chose Vogel.
