This is exactly why we should be trading back from 4 to get 9 and 16! Percentage wise we significantly increase our chances of drafting an all star ......
I think I have hopped off the "trade pick 4" bandwagon if Amen is available. Keep Green and Smith, trade the rest if required to get an above average starter level player, sign Harden (if he takes hometown discount) and overpay Cam Johnson to pry him away from the Nets. I think Amen has such a great frame, he just needs a couple of years work on his shooting. Fix that and you're looking at a freakishly good player
If Jaylen Brown and Bridges aren’t available. I just don’t see a veteran that I would want to trade for unless it is something out of left field. Dejounte Murray maybe? I have a lot if respect for Harden but I just don’t think that we are quite far enough along to be able to field a legit contender around him. I would still ask on Halliburton though. I get why he would be untouchable, but Indiana seems to be in no man’s land as far as building around him. they could start over and add the fourth and seventh pick too Mathurin. Not to mention we would kick in more. #4, #20, 2026 Nets first and Christopher for Halliburton. He would be ideal for this team..
Come on, man. That's an Iko-level trade. We might as well ask about Curry, too. Warriors are getting old and need youth to build around. #4, #20, and Nix for Curry. He would be ideal for this team.
I’ve seen a lot of proposals involving #4 and Sengun, that would be absurd unless it gets you Brown or another all-NBA guy. Sengun deserves at least a year under Udoka to gauge what his ceiling might be.
Nets Wire suggested Tate, Martin, and #4 for Cam Johnson... They are being ridiculed in the comments...
In an environment where almost your entire roster is young player it makes it harder for the pick to pan out. Having a lock down defender next to Jabari who can shoot is a need.... As far as offensive sets, Toronto isn't full of very efficient offensive players. Part of that is teammates and part of it is coaching/scheme. Catch and shoot, cutting, and setting screens might be enough as an offensive player.
That list is nice but you're citing hits from multiple picks other than 4 and not citing the additional busts. Let's get more specific... historical #4 picks: https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/4th-overall-draft-picks-nba Bosh Paul Conley Westbrook Jaren Jackson Odom Those were good value. Porzingis Evans Gordon Those are questionable value. Too early to call: Pat Williams Scottie Barnes Keegan Murray So taking out the latest 3 that leaves 22. I think you end up happy 6-9 times out of 22. So I think 27-40% chance you're happy with the pick. I think a 1 in 3 chance is more fair... If you're looking for 8+ allstar game level player (Bosh, Westbrook, and Paul) it drops to maybe a 3 in 22 chance for 13.6%. So the odds are strong you're not giving up a superstar.
Cam Johnson has never had a healthy season in the NBA? Am I reading that right? 57, 60, 66 and 42 games. Never played more than 30 minutes per game in a season. He's 27 years old. 6'8 with a 6'10 wingspan. He's not fast at the SF position. He's not big for the PF position. He doesn't rebound or pass the ball much. He basically just hits 3's at an amazing rate and plays good defense - absolutely nothing else. Compare him to OG - the difference in 3pt shooting (Cam being better) is minuscule compared to the difference in defense between these two. Defense is half of the possessions in the game where OG is significantly better. 3PT shooting is a sub category of the other half of possessions (offense) and Cam is only slightly better on fewer attempts. OG is 2 years younger. I can't wrap my head around why people want to throw money at this guy other than his shooting form is aesthetically pleasing. People want to throw $25m/season at this guy. Would much rather pay OG that.
Some value in Cam Johnson lies in extracting him from Brooklyn. He is their 2nd-4th best player, depending on how you look at things. He is also bestest bestest friends with bridges. Cam leaving Brooklyn gives a tangible boost to our Brooklyn assets IMO
I don't understand why Johnson when there are guys who shoot AND play defense instead... guys like him become bad contract like Duncan Robinson and Davis Bertans...
Trade for Cam? You must OUTBID the Nets for Cam. I would sign him for 28 million with a Sign and Trade and give up Tate, Martin and TyTy. I would draft with the #4/ for Amen Thompson and with the 20th pick draft for Lively from Duke. Starters: Harden Green Cam Jabari Sengun Bench: Amen KPJ CHRISTOPHER TARI LIVELY
Cam Johnson isn't a starter on a good team. You would have to make sure you have 4 elite defenders around him like Utah did with Joe Ingles. There are some similarities to them... Ingles was a better passer though.... Johnson a better defender... but average at best. Neither one hit the glass...
Signing 12 million dollar specialists to 28 million a year deals is how you end up with the Mavericks... Grant Williams shoots nearly as well, knows the system, plays much better defense, and is younger. He's lucky to get 18-20 and Boston won't match that if they keep Brown....
I like Amari Bailey at 20 and trade the #4.... better value in my opinion. He plays both ends and is just now showing potential as a distributor... bring him off the bench for 1-2 years... could be another Dejounte...
I'm saying that Halliburton is worth way, way more than the package you proposed. I would love to have him, but there's no chance in hell it's going to happen.
Why would Pacers want to trade Halliburton in the first place? They'd only do it if someone like Luka demands a trade and changes the entire landscape.
Cam Johnson has become highly overrated. Would people trade something like that for Trevor Ariza when we had him? Bc he was a lot better than Cam, especially his defense
