He wasn't hiding anything I don't think, but that doesn't mean something isn't wrong. They should look at everything at this point because the guy is broken.
His balance and loading are completely out of whack. By the time he gets to the ball, all of his weight and power is on his front foot, with the bat dragging behind. No wonder he's been terrible in the box, hitting slappies to infielders. Fortunately, this is correctable. A stint on the DL and extensive video work, coupled with a brief stay "rehabbing" in the minors would do wonders for his confidence and output, IMO.
For those saying that he might be injured, yeah, I guess he could be. I'd posit that he isn't injured now, but was at some point and the mechanical problems were a result of him compensating for what was likely a lower body injury. That's usually how mechanics get thrown out of whack like this. Correcting it is physical, yes, but largely, and mostly, mental. He needs some layups, some "bunnies" to encourage his return to correct form. Unfortunately, MLB pitchers aren't serving those up on the regular. Maybe some AA or AAA pitchers are? Can we schedule some batting sessions with Whitley tossing up meatballs?? I kid.... kind of.
These A's starters are some of the worst in the majors. I see a lot of high ERAs across the board. If there is any series for him to turn it around, it should be this one. But then again it should've been the series before with the A's too. This is getting dire.
I get especially frustrated seeing him flail at early pitches, especially when they are borderline. If he's trying to get his timing down, seeing more pitches could only help.
I think he just needs one homerun and then the pressure is reduced a bit and they will start coming regularly. Even a lucky one. I read yesterday that he has a few fly balls that would have been homeruns in other parks. As many as 3 in Anaheim. Then I read the one he hit yesterday would have been a homerun in 19 different parks, including Minute Maid. He is clearly struggling and in a bad place but he could use some luck
I think he'll be very servicable in the 7 hole down the stretch. Altuve Bregman Yordaddy Tucker Pena Meyers/Brantley lets hope Abreu Chaz/ Dubon Maldy/Diaz
Yeah. Funny thing about occasionally hearing things is it’s hard to figure out what’s ok to publish for public consumption and what’s not because you don’t want to burn someone that tells you stuff by having it get back to them that you’ve publicly leaked out information. I heard something that makes me believe Abreu isn’t necessarily washed and might not fundamentally be broken beyond repair. I’m going to hold out a positive thought.
Everybody else is sure to dwell on the bummer of the loss, but Abreu had a walk and 3 really good swings today after the breakthrough HR Sunday. It's only one game but it's the best he's looked.
Abreu has pretty much sucked the second half of this month, so i'm not going to get my hopes about him until he shows like 2+ weeks of straight mashing.
Dude is a Brian Cushing of a player... make an absolute statement, friend.
