Studying her catalog and history, I have a refreshed appreciation for Tina Turner. She mentored Mick Jagger and taught him dance moves influencing his stage presence, and she was basically Beyonce before Beyonce. People took it for granted over the years but she could flat-out sing her ass off and her charisma jumps off the screen, especially for those eras. They didn't call her the Queen of Rock n' Roll for no reason, being musically active for six decades.
I remember her 1980's hits almost too well, but those earlier songs and her ability to just belt out lyrics like that... she was truly special. Thanks for sharing those.
Forgive whatever commercial ends up being in this, but it’s well worth listening to. It’s the first studio recording of Janis Joplin singing “Me and Bobby McGee,” just her playing acoustic guitar, figuring out how to sing it in the recording, I guess. I love this version. We lost her a few months later.
