The difference between a top 3 playoff rotation calibur starter and a guy who just fills a rotation spot. Even with terrible command, he can use his "stuff" to get thru 5 1-run innings.
I wouldn't send Javier back out there. It's been a major struggle for him today, and he's already pretty close to his season high for pitches. Hopefully Maton is the first guy of the pen, give the offense as many chances as possible to create more separation before we go to the lower leverage guys.
Yep exactly what I was gonna say, on a day where he didn't have it, he keeps it together. Looking like a Justin Verlander out there. He's maturing right in front of our eyes. Agreed with Seal, just be glad you got 5/1 out of Javier and move on to the pen. Maton Abreu Neris Pressly.
He’s old, Father Time tagged him this year. If it makes you feel better Yuli has looked solid this year. 2023 Regular Season AB AVG HR RBI SB OPS 117 .299 3 12 2 .793
True But Meyers has always had a much higher ceiling which is why he keeps getting chances. Chas is a very valuable player to have. Great defender who can play all OF positions and be league average offensively. Enough speed and power to not be a liability in either area. But Chas has basically hit his ceiling. 4th OF with a heavy platoon split who can start regularly if needed. Likely 3 WAR ceiling. Meyers can be better than league average hitting and power with elite speed and defense. Potential 5 WAR player.
Well, they brought Mushinski up to get lefties out, and he faced just enough of them to get out of that inning scoreless. Not a particularly impressive showing from him there.
