This assumes that the House, which is at odds with the AG over the $3m whistle-blower settlement that Paxton wants it to approve from taxpayer money, is working in coordination with who? I mean, your future facts are possible, but there are many other variables playing a greater impact on why this is happening.

I just can't help think there is an ulterior motive at play...why now hold him accountable? We'll see soon enough...

His wife, a state senator, is not required to recuse herself, will vote on his removal from office. This is one of the charges…

Geren reiterated what the committee said in its articles of impeachment: That it would not have scrutinized the issue had he not requested that the Legislature sign off on a $3.3 million lawsuit settlement to the former employees.

“We are here today because the attorney general asked the state Legislature to fund a multimillion-dollar settlement,” Geren said. “There was no investigation prior to this time. We wanted to look further into the reasons behind that.”

Geren then argued that the lawsuit settlement was an attempt by Paxton to conceal potential wrongdoing.

“This settlement served to stave off a trial, including a discovery process that could have brought new info to light,” he said.

the impeachment is a little surprising, but Idc about it too much

they said what he’s done could bring forth at least 5 years in prison…those are some real consequences, and that’s what I really want to see

Still this guy has been corrupt for years. I don't believe that a few million made them all of a sudden find their conscious and ask WWJD?

Reading some friends of my FB posts. I think at this point there is nothing a Republican could do that would make them support any type of repercussions. In all seriousness, it would have to be rape or murder on video. Minus that otherwise, everything else is ok.

What's amazing is that Paxton had scores of this stuff for years, but nothing was done. Yet, Paxton ramps up the beef by saying the speaker of the house was drunk on the job, and all of a sudden he needs to be impeached. We see what things are important to these guys.

I think it was the opposite order. The House started investigating him when he wanted the state to pay his $3MM settlement. When the House report suggesting impeachment was about to come out, Paxton went after the Speaker with drunk thing.

For whatever it's worth, in Texas, the House is the more "moderate" group, relatively speaking vs the Governor, Lt Gov, AG, and Senate in general. For example, they killed at least some of the Senate's crazier bills in this session like the Ten Commandments in schools and such.

from what i read the accusation against phelan came as retaliation after paxton learned about the presser for the impeachment announcement scheduled for the following day.

hard right republicans aka traditional republicans but now known as rinos.
