    Verse/Anversen -

I'm having login problems, so apologies if this has already been mentioned.

Legitimate question. Moe and DarkHorse need to move this question to the top of their list. Moe may be heading back to Boise, but DH if you read this......!

What tozai said, except for the mental scarring part.

And if he is mentally scarred, who cares! Go to a psychiatrist, God knows he can afford it!

He's probably tired from putting out all the effort it took to carry his own ego, now that he got a big contract. [IMG]

I don't have a clue what Rocket management is thinking by ALLOWING HIM NOT TO PARTICIPATE!! Seems to me when you are paying some slacker 7 gazillion dollars a year, it's ok to " oh sir, by the way, would you get your lazy ass out on the court and at least pretend that you care."

The FACT THAT IT IS NOT HAPPENING sends a strong message....I just can't decipher it??!! Maybe they have a trade in the works and don't want to risk an injury such as a hangnail or headache. [IMG]

I thought Cato was put to sleep for bitting Kenny Thomas in the face? [IMG]

    serious questions:

    1. is it possible for an nba team to "require" a player to participate in the summer league?

    2. and is it possible for an nba team to "fine" a player for not participating in the league?

No, only NBA Exhibition games. Summer Leagues are voluntary. Note: only 3 vets are allowed per team, but Langhi is the only one counting against that; Colson and Cato don't count because they missed over 25 games, and thus do not count towards the maximum 3 vets.

    No.

imo, Cato is not playing because he's a freaking 5 yr Vet, and it is probably an unwritten rule between coaches to not play those guys, because it is unfair in their own evaluations of their rookies and such. just a guess.

I wish that was the case with Cato. But Pig Miller, Rex Walters, Anthony Harvey, Anthony Bonner, John Wallace are all 5+ year vets and are listed on the other RMR rosters.

Pig was playing today on ESPN. Something else is up with Cato, maybe someone out there actually wants him so the Rockets pulled him from the roster...we can only hope.

i think playing in the summer league could only HELP him.

he hasn't been on the court since the season ending injury. he hasn't played with the new fellas. he hasn't really played with the old fellas, either.

a man's confidence is his most valued asset. cato's is shattered. like him or not, he's a 7 footer with good size. he would get good numbers in the preseason, and that would boost his confidence.

i don't think rudy & carroll are idiots. they know what i'm saying is right. so there has to be a reason why he isn't playing.

Clutch, Pops, Doc, do you know anything???

Because he's got a long, lucrative contract and will never have to work again. Unfortunately, he took the latter half of the statement literally!

I remember reading an interview in some NBA rag in 1992 where Hakeem talked about his summer workouts. He stressed how important it was to focus on one thing every summer to improve and that you should be in shape going into the preseason. You could tell that the guy was determined to prove himself and one season later he was wearing the ring.

I heard an interview with Jerry Rice this weekend and he said nearly the same thing - that the offseason is the most important part of the year. He goes into every season in peak shape.

So the questions are: What shape is Cato in? Does he have this trademark work ethic of champions? Is he working out to bulk up or focusing on part of his game?

Maybe he is doing the things in the offseason this year that he needs to but if he comes into the season out of shape, he should not see the floor. He needs to realize that he is the difference between being a low seed in the playoffs and being a challenge to LA.

    SlamN,

Yes we can hope for that!! I'm down!

    Jumanji,

I don't think Dream ever played in Summer Leagues as defined in the new CBA (ie. league sanctioned events). Maybe there were no sanctioned events at that time. I guess my point is that you don't need an official summer league to practice like Dream did...you just need Moses Malone to sweat on you.
