Advance forward to post season baseball.....assuming the Astros make it....Dusty will pencil in Abreu in the 4 spot in every game after a 3 homer regular season. I can see that happening! LOL
Chas hit 340 with a .972 OPS last year against LHP. Dusty would bench him last year against lefties too. Benching him for Julks? This is just silly.
I am shocked that Julks wasn't sent down. 3 catchers 5 infielders 5 outfielders I guess this makes Diaz the backup 1B and means Dusty has even more excuse to play Abreu every day. It wouldn't surprise me if they send Salazar down when Brantley is activated so there are even fewer options to take Abreu out of a game or sit him. This roster building just puzzles me.
Frustrating because batting Tuck after Yordan was producing such good results. Dusty made that decision because the offense hit a lull with Abreu not producing with men on base. I think probability is high Abreu hits into a double play if he's up to bat a couple nights ago instead of Tuck walking it off.
With Altuve coming back, you can afford to trot out Abreu everyday. He's going to snap out of it eventually, just perform in the postseason.
Keep in mind Brantley has been taking reps at first base but not sure how much hope I have for Brantley playing 1st other than every once in a while.
The more excited I get for Gilbert getting closer to eventually joining the big club...the more I get worried he will eventually replace Tucker. It's a very torn bittersweet feeling.
I mean, it should be Chas, and then Dierden and then even Dubon, but yeah, Glibert would probably be a better option too.
It's just a matter of the footwork, assignments, and angles. If he's worked out there before it just cuts down on the learning curve. No idea how tall he actually is (listed at 6'), but he's not a midget. He'd be fine there.
