I know it wont happen, but Meyers and Chaz should start every game. Certainly an ideal match up for Altuve to come back to. An ideal match up for everybody really because boy do they suck.
Question about the middle game start time. MLB shows 3:10. update - MLB still shows today's game at 4:10 ET (3:10 CT)
Meyers has a career 114 wRC+ (0.776 OPS) against LHPs and absolutely crushed them in 2021 and so far is crushing them again in 2023. The Astros can easily play 7 guys against LHPs that are well above average hitters against LHPs with Meyers (8 if Abreu fixes whatever is wrong). I know some weren't/aren't high on Brantley, but the Astros need guys that allow the Astros to toggle in and out their LHP killers for RHP killers.
I agree. But Brantley plays more games simply because we face more righties. But I'm a fan of optimizing the line-up AND BO.
I could see Dusty maybe giving Altuve the midfle game off or DHing him which allows Dubon to play 2nd. I can't see Dusty sitting Dubon more than 1. Bregman, Pena, and Tucker all had DH or off days recently. Neither Dubon nor Altuve can catch or play 1B. Well I guess Dubon could but never has. That means Dubon plays at least 1 game in the OF and either Chas or Jake sit at least 1 game. I guess he could sit Alvarez one of the games but that sounds foolish after an off day.
What if Jake went on a tear now with a clusterbunch of homeruns? One can dream. Dusty probably sitting him this game.
If he’s not completely broken (my suspicion) and if Dusty platoons him (he won’t). I hated the Brantley signing as much because it gives Dusty the opportunity to misuse 2 guys (Brantley and Chas) as opposed to anything else.
Its suddenly an interesting scenario because all 3 A's starters are lefties. Altuve will probably play all 3 games but may DH 1 of them. Yordan should play every game. He's the best hitter on the team and DHs enough that fatigue should never be an issue. Dubon, Meyers, and Chas all hit lefties exceptionally well. Only 4 spots for the 5 of them unless you sit Tucker, Bregman, or Pena and each of them have recently had an off or DH game along with yesterdays day off without travel.
This. The A's don't give a DAMN this season. They are going to be one of the worst teams in recent history when it's all said and done.
