I would argue that his physical tools are at least on par with those guys (and clearly better than Luka who is not a hyper-elite athlete at all). His burst/quickness are on par with some of the fastest players in the league and his leaping ability might be better than any current NBA starter. He regularly threatens to hit his head on the rim. The way he moves on the court is the closest I've ever seen to a player who must not be named because I ain't putting that jinx on him. Hard disagree. As Stone said in his interview the other day, it's a great draft class. Don't be surprised if it produces 3-4+ superstar HoF type players.
wow Amen is closer to Lebron if he gets a jumper…Sounds familiar, where have I heard that one before?
Why is it so crazy to you that a guy in the conversation for the #3 pick in a draft class with a true generational talent might also be generational if you removed the biggest question mark about his game? That's pretty much to be expected, is it not?
Sure sounds like the future is bright. Green will be Kobe. Amen will be LeBron. Jabari will be KG with better shooting. Sengun will be Jokic. Tari will be Kawhi. We will be winning more than 30 games in no time.
Do u expect Stone to say that the draft sucks and he’s disappointed? Of course he would say what he did and try to find a silver lining after we fell to 4th. Physical tools aren’t everything when it comes to ranking or evaluating a prospect. If Amen was simply a jumper away from being the 3rd best prospect in the last 20 years, then he’d be in serious contention to go 2nd overall over Scoot Henderson and he and Miller shouldn’t even be a debate for scouts. And who would that player be? Lemme guess, Lebron?
No, Amen is not as big or as strong as LeBron, obviously. I'm thinking of a certain legendary 6'6" guard who could jump out of the gym. Only talking about physical tools here, keep in mind, not overall game, so don't start getting on me. Rumor mill has it Amen has been in serious contention to go #2, at least in some front offices.
not sure what Wemby being in his class has to do with anything…if Wemby never existed, Amen would still be behind Scoot and Miller if Amen was such an amazing prospect just a jump shot away from being closer to a Lebron, then he should be in serious competition to be taken over Scoot What’s next? Can we take away Scoot’s weaknesses to make him a generational PG prospect?
videos of Amen doing a reverse layup or dunk and then Lebron or some other all-time great doing the exact same thing in the next clip are coming soon
It would not be crazy to take Amen over Scoot. Vecenie and Spinella were talking on his pod like they both had them in the same tier (no "tier break" between Scoot and Amen). Some front offices are reportedly considering it. I personally do have Scoot in a higher tier, but it's not like some wild, out there take to have them at about the same level as prospects. Amen has more upside, Scoot is safer.
Spinella is a high school history teacher, part time 'coach' of a latin high school. People need to stop citing him as a source in any way. Complete hack in every way, not that Vecenie is any better. The words that an average posteer here farts our of their keyboard is as credible as Spinella and his trash takes (histortically wrong on every level).
Okay, so whose opinion do you respect? You don't care that front offices are considering him for #2, you don't care about sports media draft analysts who almost all have him either #3 or #4, you don't care about internet amateurs who spend their time watching tape and making content.
Thing is that it's the only question mark about his game. He projects as an elite athlete, an elite passer and a potential good to great defender. His shooting from 3 is in the 20s....just like Wemby who is a 27% 3 point shooter. Some people have just made up their minds at this point. There's still a high chance we end up with Miller if Portland keeps their pick. Shaedon/Amen is a pretty enticing young pairing. After Paolo last year I'm not even getting my hopes up.
It seem to me the most realistic comp for Amen is Ben Simmons (before he forgot how to play basketball.) Ben was also getting the "if he could shoot he's Lebron" comps heh. I guess Amen's mentality is better than Ben (that seems like a rather low bar.) I'm not completely out on Amen, but I certainly would not feel great about it either. You'd figure if Ben Simmons have a better mindset and better coaching maybe it would have gone better. I mean it's easy to crap on him now but the dude did make 3 all stars in 4 years.
Spurs insider forums were reporting Amen at #2 on San Antonio’s board. Pretty sure I saw that rumored in The Athletic as well.
I want to say I don't really think Amen comps to LeBron physically, nor Ben Simmons. Those guys were both bigger and stronger as prospects and physically speaking slot in around the vicinity of a combo forward. Amen is a tall, wiry-strong guard. Body of a prototypical wing, passing/playmaking skills of a point guard. He probably will not be quite the rebounder that LeBron or Simmons have been, although he should still be one of the best-rebounding point guards in the league, if he sticks as a starter and that is indeed his ultimate position.
I think it’s really important to keep in mind that roles are different offense vs defense, and that versatility matters on defense so much. Offensively Amen is probably a lead initiator / “point guard”. Defensively Amen is not a guard at all. He’s a wing. He could defend anyone from a point guard to a combo forward, but his primary assignment will probably be the best wing on the other team or in a free safety role on the weak side. Especially if he’s playing with Jalen, who is best equipped to guard the other teams point guard imo given Jalen’s quickness, skinny frame to navigate on-ball screens, and lack of bulk. With Amen in the lineup we’d be set up to cover for defensive weaknesses in our backcourt because of the versatility. I love Scoot and hope we can trade up for him, but don’t forget that with Scoot our defensive versatility would be a problem. Scoot + Jalen in the backcourt is workable, but you’d have to be doing a lot with lineup construction and scheme to make sure it doesn’t hurt you due to size limitations.
Amen is the anthony Richardson of the nba draft Both high level athletism Anthony Richardson needs to improve as a passer Amen needs to improve his shooting Both have massive upside Both could get the GM fired
