Neither of Fox or Morant are anywhere near Amen as passers lol. He's on a different planet than them. Just go watch his passing. His "whip" pass is absolutely unreal. Looks like an MLB pitcher.

I was just thinking the rockets needed more guys who can't shoot 3s, seems like a perfect fit

Work on the shooting problem in free agency. Plenty of good three point shooters available this offseason.

But I also think you can project Green and Jabari to be good 3P shooters when they hit their prime years. Maybe Sengun and Tari too (jury's still out).

this is true, and he's got a higher defensive ceiling than them too. although he probably will not be a good defender right away.

however, they have the ability to hit a pull up 3. even though they're not the best shooters, they are respectable enough to make you guard them. I'm not sure amen gets there. if its the Westbrook/simmons defense of daring you to shoot, it just clogs everything up. however, I like to have faith in his reported character and work ethic.

The Rockets need a veteran point guard and then have Amen come off the bench. He’s going to need a lot of time to develop.

He can be a lot better if everything hits right. Imagine if Giddey had Jalen Green's athleticism but was still the same height, and you're kinda close. Amen is a less polished than Giddey was as a rookie though, and it may take him longer to get going.

    He has long wingspan. I didn't think he's 6'8". I thought maybe 6'7"

Just depends on if Charlotte or Portland fall in love with anyone else and they do both have established Pgs already so they might not take scoot(although dame might leave)

Fox and Ja are nowhere near Amen as a passer? Really? Y’all talking like he’s some passing savant out there…like he’s CP3, Harden, or Luka

Charlotte has been playing LaMelo next to Rozier for his whole career so I don’t see why they’d pass on a Scoot Henderson…they’d be replacing Rozier with Scoot and moving forward with a Scoot-LaMelo backcourt

and then a wing player like Brandon Miller is there for Charlotte or Portland as well

If either of them wouldn’t take Scoot because of their guard situation, why would they want the worst guard in Amen Thompson? Hard for me to see Jarace Walker or Whitmore being taken top 3 instead.

The closest comparison would probably be a prime John Wall (not the broke-ass Rockets version).

I understand the disappointment from not getting Wemby, but that’ll pass. IMO this draft has a huge fall off after Amen and we beat the odds (again) to get into the top 4.

    I am pumped about Amen.

Yes I’ve watched ~8 full OTE games this year.

    Positives:
    - Amen is the best athlete + specimen in the draft since Zion (but without the Zion weight issues, although Zion’s total package is a tier above). Similar explosiveness to Anthony Edwards, but bigger and with more herky / jerky unpredictability and flexibility like Shai
    - Best passer in the draft. Better than Scoot or Anthony Black
    - Best rim pressure generator since Zion and Ja.
    - High feel player, makes the right decisions, always knows where everyone is on the court, controls pace, and is very unselfish
    - Mostly ignore the “he played against 16 year olds” complaints. The OTE games that matter were against mostly 18 year old high level prospects for the 2024 and 2025 drafts. More size and raw talent than a mid major college program, less strict college-like organization. The Thompsons absolutely crushed the league, just like you’d expect them to.
    - Arguably the best wing defender in the draft and can defend guards at the POA. Very very good both on-ball and as a defensive playmaker. Can guard both PG’s and big wings as a primary assignment.
    - 100% has that dog in him. Super competitive on the court and all reports are that the twins are very hard workers off the court who just love basketball

    Negatives
    - He can’t shoot. 66% from the FT line, 28% from 3, and midrange and floater don’t look good. Been working on it a while and improvement has been slow. He isn’t afraid to shoot or go to the FT line at all.

Overall I think he’s a fantastic prospect. I think he fits very well offensively with Jalen and Jabari since they both project as plus shooters who don’t need the ball all the time, and his defensive fit is perfect. Helps us majorly on defense with Jalen, KPJ, Harden, FVV, whoever. I think even if he never can shoot any type of self created shot well, his floor is Andre Iguodala with rim pressure.

FYI: notable recent picks who shot terribly before getting drafted: LaMelo, Scottie Barnes, Josh Giddey, Dyson Daniels, Kuminga. It’s definitely improvable / learnable; what Amen has can’t be learned.
