I wouldn't start with this, but I'd be willing to do 4th pick, 20th, and Nets unprotected 2024 pick for Scoot
I think Charlotte goes Miller at 2. Which means we're screwed if Portland trades out as someone will jump in for Scoot. Amen is alright, but Scoot was the only way i come out of this happy enough if we had to watch Wemby go to anyone in our division.
I would caution you that the common wisdom is "best player available". Teams rarely draft for fit. But yes. Absolutely try to trade up and get Scoot Henderson.
Which is why we need to make that offer to Portland as well. I'd trade a decent bit (like in the original post, KJ Martin, #4, and Clippers pick) to move up one spot to secure Scoot. Would gladly trade them KPJ over KJ, if they wanted, also.
The more I think about it if I’m Hornets I’m take Scoot to either give LaMelo body a break or to be injury insurance for LaMelo I think Portland might bite on a trade if stuck with Miller and trade back as long as they get one of the twins for a rebuild Neither team probably wants to be stuck with Miller if Melo keeps getting hurt or Dames age starts showing
100% agreed. Scoot may have gotten overall outplayed by Wemby in their head to head but Scoot held his own and looked like a stud and stood out even against Wemby.
Rumors are we'd be looking to trade out of 4. I doubt that'd be for an extra first. It's time to cash in the chips, not continue to play hands.
Y’all, give it up!!! It’s not happening and we gotta face it. Don’t like Scoot anyways, but we’re not trading up
Cope and hope. Still a chance. They could fall in love with someone else also, remember the Mobley draft? Mobley was a legit option for us until it became clear he didn't want to play for our organization. Cleveland fans were in our position, they NEEDED Mobley, they had spent the last few drafts picking guards and it worked out for them because Mobley didn't want to come here either. Maybe it becomes clear that Cha is locked on to Amen and Scoot's team decides to like ours better and they kind of let Portland know that...maybe. I mean you are right, it's likely both will be gone. Miller is not dropping past 3 no matter what and Scoot is a dynamic prospect that any team would be dumb on passing on but.. Cope and hope.
I'd consider 4 and 20 for 6 and 11 IF I thought amen would turn out to be a non shooter like Simmons and I could get a great 3/D PG in Wallace at 6. however... 1. I think we swing for the upside of amen. beet on his reported character and worth ethic 2. would Orlando want someone at 4 they couldn't get at 6? (amen or whitmore?) neither are a good fit for them.
The drop-off from the top three prospects is large. If Scoot is there at 3 and Portland is auctioning the pick, they're going to want a major haul, not a few okay assets to drop down one spot. And another team is likely to give them a much bigger return.
Orlando in a good position to get Taylor Hendricks who is a terrific and scary fit for them. They do need a PG bad. So I might consider 6 & Suggs for 4. Just sayin’
Interesting aspect that I forgot about with Portland momentarily--they already have Shaedon Sharpe developing. So they actually are even more stacked in the backcourt than I was thinking, assuming they aren't ready to move on from Dame. I think probably Charlotte takes Scoot and Portland takes Miller and that all lines up fine for them. But saying Charlotte bucks consensus and takes Miller, and Portland is still not ready to trade Dame, what are they thinking there? Maybe they do want to move back? Maybe they really like Jarace Walker, Taylor Hendricks, Ausar Thompson, Cam Whitmore, or see Amen as being able to play the 3 ala Josh Giddey? (He definitely has the wingspan for it.) Food for thought. I don't see a scenario where we can trade up as likely but it may not be impossible.
