I don't watch it as much as I used to.. when i'm at school where I have espn news.. i usually watch that more than sportscenter
have yet to see these music guests actually...... watch sportscenter sparsely probably haven't seen them due to the fact that I mainly just tune in to espn news because the channel sports center uses (206 for direct tv) is usually covering some random event half the time.
I KNEW I wasn't the only one who can't stand ESPN anymore, but I feel a lot more should be as well. It's hard for me to determine who exactly ESPN is targeting. Which age group? I guess teh crap/idiot generation. Anyway, this just added icing to the cake: ESPN The Weekend?!?! What is this ****?!!?!?!?!
I have gotten to where I almost always watch espn news over sportscenter. It more professional, contains the latest news and actually has sports highlights.
Sportscenter died when it started leaning more towards the pop culture aspect rather than sports. In all honesty, the show has gone downhill ever since Olberman left. I've been watching ESPNews since the start, and sportscenter and their clown-like anchors are now an afterthought.
Somebody recently posted that article in the NBA dish forum, when they thought that "david aldrich was fired," and it had an excellent account of eveything we've been talking about here. They also had a nice little thing called Good ESPN and Bad ESPN (of which I've added my own 2cents). Good ESPN: Baseball tonight, NFL Primetime (despite Berman), Outside the lines, Bob Ley, Dan Patrick, Pardon the Interuption, The Sports Reporters, MLB and NFL games they produce, when they cover legal issues... whether it be the MLB strike, O.J.'s case, or Kobe's case. Bad ESPN: Stuart Scott, Dream Job, Around the Horn, Steven A. Smith, Chris Berman (doing anything other than NFL primetime), World Series of Poker (when its on 24-7, norman chad gets annoying), NBA games they produce, Yankees and Lakers drama overexposure, Times Square studio, Chris Connelly.
The song is ok... but it had NOTHING to do with sports. And, they seemed like idiots, when they were matching up the numbers in the song with a player's jersey: when he sings "33" they kept showing pictures of Larry Bird, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Patrick Ewing... "22" showed Prior and Clemens... Did they not realize that the song was about his age, and how he was feeling younger/older? I guess understanding song lyrics is beyond the higher heads at ESPN... There's a few songs that I associate with sports, but this was definitely not one of them. (btw, those songs are 'Centerfield', the first verse of 'Glory Days', Van Halen's 'Right Now', and a ton of Queen songs)
I would do that too, except ESPN News has been taken off my cable and I now have to pay extra for it. But I agree with everyone else, ESPN has gone way downhill; however, as drapg said, where else are we going to go for sports news? That is what I hate more than anything else...ESPN is a monopoly and they know it so they can do **** like this music thing and get away with it because they know that all we can do is complain but that we are still going to watch.
I get most of my sports updates from the net these days anyway, so Sportscenter going down the crapper hasn't been that big a deal to me. The only time I make an effort to watch is if something big has gone down with one of the teams I follow. Other than that, I don't really have a reason to watch it.
Anybody else see this promo for "ESPN: Old School?" Apparently their bringing back former hosts to work a few shows... Next Sunday: Craig Kilbourne! I know everybody's tired of the on-air personalities becoming caricatures of themselves (Stuart Scott)... but Kilbourne was one of the first on-air personalities who actually blended zany humor into the highlights... and it never got stale like Scott's schitck. They'll also be bringing back Charley Steiner, Greg Gumbel, and some other people I don't remember (no Olbermann, however).
exactly. the last time i watched it was for the linda cohn/t-mac interview and i can't remember the time before that. these days i mainly just focus on the home-town teams and this site alone pretty much covers what i need to know. espnnews is pretty good though, i like the asian guy, i forgot his name. i usually leave it on during the day when i'm just sitting at the computer.
I watch Sportscenter if I'm bored or if I have no other way of finding out about the Astros or Rockets. I can only stand baseball tonight if the Astros won that same night. NBA 2NITE or whatever they call that show now is my favorite show. I for one actually enjoyed the Friday night double headers and the games on Wednesday, but then again I'd probably watch any NBA game at any given time. Inside the NBA is just plain awful, no highlights, no in depth conversation, it's entertaining though.
WOW, thanks for the heads up. Kilbourne hosting the "feel good edition" of sportscenter every night in the A.M. was hilarious. It will be cool to see him back on for a show. Great idea! Who can forget the Rockets glory days in 94/95 and Kilbourne exclaiming about Robert Horry, "ah, that's just Bobby being Bobby......resourceful!"
I'm really looking forward to Steiner's return. I always liked him. Next Sunday, though, is Kilborn and Patrick on the 12:00am show. Can't top that! Too bad they couldn't get Olbermann to return. Too many bitter memories that have yet to blow over for him to ever consider coming back.
