None of these folks are eligible for assylm. None. if they do not apply in Mexico they will be deported. It's crazy how so many public officals don't understand the rules.

They need to deport all the people in the shelters if they havnt applied from Mexico. The problem is these officals are lefties and don't want to turn them away. The rules make them ineligible.

    Deport them all

    Joe Biden’s Immigration Calamity
The collapse of his border policy is on full and painful display.
    By The Editorial Board
    May 10, 2023 at 6:53 pm ET

Scenes from the Biden Administration’s immigration policy:

    • More than 10,000 illegal migrant apprehensions on Tuesday, a record for a single day.

    • Emergencies are declared in El Paso and other border cities, but also in Democratic-run New York state and Chicago, far from the border. Shelters and emergency-bed capacity are overwhelmed. New York City may create migrant tent shelters in Central Park.

    • Tens of thousands more migrants from all over the world sit across the border in Mexico, waiting for the right moment to walk or swim to the U.S.

This is what failure looks like.

The Biden Administration has tried to minimize the collapse of its immigration policy, hoping most Americans wouldn’t notice if only Fox News reported on the border chaos. But as the Administration’s Title 42 authority to deport illegal migrants expires on Thursday, the human debacle and the burdens on American cities can’t be asserted away.

It’s important to recall how we got here. Democrats campaigned against the Trump Administration’s policies as cruel. Upon taking office, President Biden ended such Trump-era policies as Remain in Mexico.

The signal went out to migrants that the border was essentially open. If you entered the U.S. and claimed asylum, the chances were good you would be admitted with a future date for an asylum tribunal you may never have to show up for. Millions of migrants took the hint and came in record numbers.

Now that Title 42 is expiring, the Administration is scrambling to make this human deluge more orderly, though not to stop it. It’s sent 1,500 U.S. troops to the border for paperwork to free up more border agents. It’s opening 100 more “processing centers” throughout the Western Hemisphere to hear asylum claims there and encourage migrants to avoid trekking to the border.

On Wednesday the Homeland Security and State departments also said they will now enforce Title 8 authority that allows for easier deportation for those who “do not have a legal basis to remain.” This is essentially an admission that the Trump enforcement regime was useful to deter unchecked migration.

The Administration could have done this months or a year ago, as the migrant crisis built. President Biden could also have spent political capital to negotiate an immigration compromise when Congress was under Democratic control. Instead he tagged Vice President Kamala Harris to address the “root causes” of migration in Central America. Yes, she really did try that one.

All of this is depressing enough for its human and other costs, but also for those who believe the U.S. needs more legal immigration. Even pro-immigration Republicans aren’t going to support more legal visas until the border is all but closed. A deal to legalize the Dreamers brought here illegally as children looks to be more distant than ever.

The only way to stop the migrant deluge now is to radically change the incentives to come. Send the message that if you are caught arriving illegally at the border, you will be deported and put on a banned list for legal entry. No exceptions. Once the flow subsides, it might then be possible to rebuild enough public trust for a bipartisan immigration compromise.

The tragedy is that Joe Biden has done more to undermine public support for immigration than Trump adviser Stephen Miller ever imagined he could.

I don’t agree with Biden on this but it does shows that rhetoric about an “open border” or that the border is collapsing isn’t true.

There is so much paranoia and alarmist rhetoric about this. Yes the federal government should be providing more aid to border states but just enforcement and trying to close the border doesn’t work and will not work.

It doesn’t work under Trump otherwise Trump wouldn’t have been talking about caravans. It doesn’t matter which party is in power as long as our policies remain out of touch with the amount of people that want to come and the businesses that want to hire.

Well we could start by removing the crippling economic sanctions against Venezuela and Cuba, which are two of the biggest sources currently of immigrants. The sanctions are effective to the point of impoverishing the average person , but are not accomplishing our objective of causing the people's suffering to cause them to overthrown the government. A good second step would be to actually send real aid to countries like Guatemala in which climate change is largely driving the peasants off their small holdings. A third step could be to grant temporary work visas to folks from those countries. After all Commodores and Tinmen to not want to do their own yard work or work in the kitchens of the restaurant they eat at.

Sadly, a quick glance at Fox (GOP) News will show, with about 1/3 of their airtime devoted to videos of the caravans , ofter from Venezuela conservative big money backed by the little guy Commodores and Tinmen. The concervatives/ GOP prefer to maintain immmigration, as a do whistle racial issue or a a wedge issue to drive the vote in 2024 to maintain the status quo against the economic interests of most Americans.

Maykoras said today at press conference he told DHS to prioritize deportations over releasing anyone in the streets.

The law clearly says if you do not have approval to come to the border you will be deported. Sorry but we're a land of laws.

Biden admin to allow for the release of some migrants into the U.S. with no way to track them
“We’re already breaking and we haven’t hit the starting line,” one DHS official said, referring to the lifting of Covid restrictions set to take place Thursday.

    https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/biden-admin-plans-order-release-migrants-us-no-way-track-rcna83704

    excerpt:

After more than 11,000 migrants were caught crossing the southern border on Tuesday, the Biden administration is now preparing a memo that will direct Customs and Border Protection to begin releasing migrants into the U.S. without court dates or the ability to track them, according to three sources familiar with the plans.

The Biden administration began releasing migrants without court dates to alleviate overcrowding in March 2021, but had previously enrolled those migrants in a program known as Alternatives to Detention, which required them to check in on a mobile app until they were eventually given a court date. The new policy would release them on “parole” with a notice to report to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement office but without enrolling them in the program.

The more than 11,000 border apprehensions in a single day is a record and surpasses expectations of 10,000 per day predicted by Department of Homeland Security officials on what could come when Covid restrictions lift late Thursday.

“We’re already breaking and we haven’t hit the starting line,” one DHS official told NBC News, speaking on the condition of anonymity because the person isn't authorized to talk to the media.

Speaking at a news conference just before noon, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said the migrants who will be affected by the policy represent “a fraction of the people that we encounter.”

"In fact, the vast majority will be addressed in our border patrol facilities and our ICE detention facilities," Mayorkas added.

Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz said he estimates that 60,000 to 65,000 migrants are in northern Mexico waiting to enter the U.S.

"We are not in a position where we can ATD everyone," he said, using an acronym for the program that allows the authorities to track migrants released into the country. "I would like to."

A DHS spokesperson said the new policy will apply only to migrants who have been carefully vetted.

The people who will be released into the country are less than 1% of those encountered. The vast majority will be deported right away
