Yeah, but don't let the media tell it. They love trashing us and making it out like we traded away JJ Watt, 4 years worth of drafts, and HEB for Laremy... We were expected to compete hardcore. We were up 24 on the eventual super bowl champs... this trade went through quite a few unexpected turns...
I'm a calculated risk taker I think they should have waited until 2024, obviously they thought differently and asa fan I hope their right.
Agree. If you're in a rebuild and you can see a way to help your team win, why not make a ballsy move like the Texans did? Those extra firsts may:- 1/. lose value if you win extra games. 2/. Can help you NOW. A year is a long time for any business that's bleeding money. A bird in the hand...
Waited on who? Caleb Williams is going #1. No one in the position of being #1 is trading off that spot (Rams, Cards, Bucanneers). So, you are now looking at who is left. Drake Maye is a UNC (OSU QBs? Look at North Carolina’s history) QB who lost to Georgia Tech and lost his last 4 games and didn’t look good in 3 of them. You don’t know what he is. For **** and giggles, Texans picking around 8-12, and need to move up to Top 3 to get the remaining QB. They would have to pay what the panthers’ paid. That is more than what they paid to get to 3 this draft to get a less proven QB. Aside from Williams, there is no proven QB in the 2024 with the production of Young and Stroud in 2024. You may think some are better prospects, but their numbers do not match Stroud or Young’s against similar competition. I don’t think you realize how good 85 TD-12 ints, 8123 yards, 9.8 y/att, 69.3 completion % is in college football history playing in a power 5 conference in 2-year span. Those are Stroud’s numbers. The only reasons Bryce Young was rated higher is the Heisman, SEC, OSU QB history, and Stroud lack of running stats (which he proved he can move when necessary). Stroud is a more accurate passer than Young, bigger stature, and stronger arm. Bird in the hand…
The Texans would have to finish dead last to get Caleb Williams more than likely. Not sure why you would expect that with the roster improvement due to draft capital, free agents, as well as a competent coaching staff coming into the equation. I think the Texans rated Stroud pretty highly if you listen to how Caserio talks about him or just hear what has been disclosed pre draft. People are going to have their opinions of course. I like the fact, that almost all former NFL guys like Kurt Warner, Simms Family, Josh McCown, etc have given CJ their stamp of approval as someone they feel will be very successful in the NFL. A lot of them even had him rated higher than Young. Cardinals reportedly had 5 teams inquire about moving to 3 overall and that wasn't to get Anthony Richardson. CJ is an elite QB prospect based on a lot of factors. Waiting for next year never makes sense. It just reminds me of that time everyone thought Spencer Rattler was the next Pat Mahomes and a can't miss prospect. Uh.. oh.
Some like Stroud, some don't I don't think he will be a bad QB. But I do think Cal has relegated his team to mediocrity. Fans will be back in the stands and that's all he really cares about. So good for him. Exactly how his dad did with Carr. History is repeating itself.
And yet here we are with more assumptions being made about what the Nick Caserio and Demeco Ryans wanted to do and what they were forced to do without any information. Ok.
The Texans ownership has earned this, with over 2 decades of incompetence. Same things were being said when RS was GM. Ownership has always made the call on hc's, high draft picks and high profile signings. Truth is the McNair's are the worst kind of bosses to work with. They tell you that you are in charge of everything, then they say your in charge of everything but this, this and that. They use the boardroom model to hide their incompetence.
No, there were other options. Trent Williams was available for far less. The 49'ers obtained him for a third and fifth round pick. Trent Williams is better and cheaper than Tunsil. Full stop.
Drafting Stroud we’re out on a QB next season anyway. Now it would be phenomenal to reunite Stroud & Harrison! Hopefully Cleveland is garbage this season!
I wanted Mills to succeed even knowing the odds against him. Supported him because he deserved to show us if he can take the next step or not. He couldn't. Now people have decided their narrative before a single down has been snapped? Wild. I could never do that. It's disrespect to the history of the game, 'the process', the scouting. If I gave Mills 17 games, I need to see Stroud 2 seasons before making the he can't play in the NFL allegation.
The Texans traded for Laremy Tunsil on 8/31/2019. In April of 2019, Trent Williams had a surgical procedure performed to remove a growth from his head due to a cancer known as dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans. Later that season his team put him on the team's reserve list, in October of 2019 (2 months after our trade), Trent Williams failed a physical due to post-surgical soreness... then in 2020 he was subsequently trade for a 3 and a 5. You're saying we should've risked a couple of picks for a guy that was on the reserve list, had cancer, couldn't pass a physical, but we shouldn't have wasted them on the guy who was an All-Star, now turned All-Pro.... c'mon man... you know this makes no sense. This is such a "hindsight take" if I've ever heard one. We had a full All-Star season from Tunsil, before Trent Williams could even play a down of football...
Mills never stood a chance because of coaching and lack of weapons around him. Stroud should have better coaching and better weapons around him. If he's the guy he should be significantly better than Mills in short order as a rookie. With that said I give Mills 2 and a 1/3 seasons before passing judgement. But we should know alot after 2 seasons.
A Texans team sinking below the waves had no business trading those assets for Tunsil. That was an awful trade at the time. I said it then, I stand by it now.
And it could be - COULD BE - a harbinger of what's to come with the Anderson trade - giving up too many assets for a piece that isn't close to the final one is (potentially) a recipe for short- and long-term disaster. That Tunsil trade was a product of bad drafting/asset allocation, and it is a big reason why this team fell off the cliff they way they did: they had no avenue to address what were still-glaring holes on the roster.
They should've traded up for Tunsil after the gas mask video. Sometimes trading up is the right thing to do.
I knew it. Steichen is going to have Richardson ready to start day one. I knew it wouldn't take much. All he needed was professional coaching.
