I had enough of the Hakeem bashers. I hope he goes to Knicks (so that I can see him on NBC more often.) and drops 45 points on Cato and his so called fans in Houston when he plays Rockets. Apparently none of the defense for Hakeem works into you guys' heads. ------------------
KD, what are u talking about? nobody on this forum hates hakeem, and most of us want him back. but at what expense? Is he worth losing MO, Moochie, or SA... I think not. People only criticize him because we dont want to lose our own free agents. ------------------ Howdy Partner! [This message has been edited by HeyDude (edited July 24, 2001).]
KD I think its the other way around, none of Dream's defenders realize that signing him for what he demands will jeopardize FA signings this year and possibly next year as well. Players come and go but the organization will be here for a long long time...except the sellout Oilers (actually Bud). ------------------
Agreed. Additionally, since we won't win a championship in the next few years (most likely), his jeopardizing players who may be around for the next 5 or 6 years becomes even that much more of a factor. I hate to see Hakeem go. He is still good when healthy and will help another team. We should try and sign him to something reasonable or get the best in return (given or situation) as we can for him and let it be. Most people on this board are realists and this is the reality of the matter. ------------------ American business long ago gave up on demanding that prospective employees be honest and hardworking. It has even stopped hoping for employees who are educated enough that they can tell the difference between the men's room and the women's room without having little pictures on the doors.
I don't think anyone including the Hakeem defenders are saying to give him 20 mil over 2 years. But I think the 4.1 mil the Rockets offered is a disgrace. I believe it's possible to give the Dream about 5 mil a year, and still sign all or most of our other free agents too. ------------------
I have no problem with giving Hakeem whatever the Rockets can afford this year, be it $4.1-10 million as long as we re-sign our other FAs. But a 2 year deal stinks. There's a good chance Hakeem might not make it through this year and yet he is asking for a guaranteed contract paying $5-6 million next year? He's not playing for anything more than the money so he's trying to get all he can. What more does he have to prove or achieve? ------------------ [This message has been edited by SlamN (edited July 24, 2001).]
