Apparently @Space Ghost forgot the global economic turmoil caused when an economic giant like Greece threatened to default on its debt. But no....Taiwan doesn't matter!
This is an issue for all the anti-globalization people. Globalization is one of the key reasons why the world has been more peaceful than ever the last 30-40 years and a big reason why it's so rare for a major country to invade another now. The global response to Russia's invasion only helps ensure the next country thinks twice. It's yet another reason why its in the US' interest to ensure this ends badly for Russia. Deterrance in the future is a far better outcome than more attempts at this nonsense by other countries.
Now the I very much understand how interconnected the world is. This is why I stated a long time ago Russian sanctions were not very effective. The world needs Russia's energy and there are plenty of countries who will buy it discounted even if Europe chooses to sanction and opts for sky rocketing energy costs. Taiwan and Ukraine are very different. Whoever chooses to sanction China will be hurt significantly. China has been offloading its US debt for awhile now. We can bookmark this discussion, make our predictions and pull it out in a couple years, but the reality is nobody really knows how it will play out. If anything, we should be supporting Mexico, loosen up the border and encouraging growth in all forms of manufacturing and continue these efforts on down to south america. Our two continents have almost everything we need.
“Those are soldiers we lost today. Their blood is still fresh,” Prigozhin rages. “And now listen to me, ****ers. They were someone’s sons or fathers. You, ****ers, who don’t give us ammo, will burn in hell. We have a lack of shells … Shoigu, Gerasimov, where the **** are our shells? Look at them, b****es.” He adds: “Those guys came here as volunteers. They fight for you to continue enjoying your lavish lifestyles in your cabinets decorated with redwood.”
I don’t understand how a guy goes from catering to major global paramilitary leader…must make a mean borscht
He was literal gangster/fraudster/thief/pimp and spent 9 years in Russian prison before starting his catering business.
Yes whoever sanctions the PRC will hurt. We’ve found that out the last free years as our soybean exports have taken a big hit due to the trade war with the PRC. Thr problem is tht the PRC is hurting also as they have to pay higher prices for soybeans. Also even without sanctions a war between Taiwan and the PRC will hurt both economies and the threat to shipping in that are will greatly hurt trade. As of now Trump did strengthen North American trade with the revamped NAFTA and Biden is doing more with bringing back manufacturing. That said we still trade a lot with the PRC and other countries not in this hemisphere. That isn’t likely to disappear anytime soon.
Anyone who has time should listen to this great interview the joint chiefs did yesterday. Talks about how XI views us military and what chinnese thinking of Ukraine is. Really fascinating stuff
Rogoway knows his stuff. This is good news. I wish it applied to China's inventory, as well. That's definitely a bigger question mark.
Trade with Mexico has been rapidly increasing since the trade war ramped in 2017. Also trade with Canada as the globe seems to be going into regionalization from globalization.
I told you all that this was a big farce. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-65516633 Yevgeny Prigozhin: Wagner boss 'promised ammunition' after retreat threat
Just going to say again how nuts it is in 2023 to have a private mercenary army play such a large role in a major power war. It's like the days of privateers and the British East India company.
