Unlikely to be in play, but wondering what a package for Jrue Holiday would look like. Can’t think of many better fits next to Green (or Harden for that matter). Would people be willing to give up the Nets picks or one of our higher profile young talent like Sengun or Jabari? For the Bucks, it would only make sense in a 3-team scenario whereby they use our assets to trade for Lillard. Something like the below: HOU gets: Jrue Holiday MIL gets: Lillard POR gets: Smith, KPJ, picks from HOU and MIL as needed. If we get lucky in the draft (Wemby), while signing a solid SF like Jerami Grant in Free Agency, we could start the season with Holiday, Green, Grant, Wemby, Sengun. That should firmly place us in the playoff picture and still leave us with plenty of upside via organic development, remaining draft picks and 2024 cap space (Jaylen Brown). In my view such a play only makes sense in the case we draft Wemby, which will bring forward our timeline for contention. Otherwise we are better off keeping our young talent and allowing them to further increase their value.
My assumption is that they think the players they have are fine, which is why they fired the coach. I imagine they want to see what a new coach can do before they start selling players off.
This is where the Rockets need to be predatory, and why I am not as concerned as I previously was about the lack of free agents this summer. The Rockets can take on a lot of salary without having to send any back. I think there will be good players (not just dead weight) that will need to be unloaded by some of the luxury tax teams. I think KJM could play a big part because his value is so much greater than his near league minimum salary. There are some metrics that have KJM better than Andrew Wiggins. I happen to think Wiggins is better and provides more of what this team needs in the form of 3pt and defense. That trade would save the GSW $75M. I think it's something the Rockets should pursue. GSW might not care about the money if they win another championship, which is why I am rooting Lakers for this series.
KPJ's trade value should increase with maturity under Ime Udoka. I don't think it's high right now. Wiggens' value remains high I believe for GSW.
give up our lottery pick and kpj and some more picks for jrue Holliday ? It seems like we are helping the bucks get lillard I’ll say no
Unfortunately, when the Warriors start dumping salary, I think Poole will be first in line. But, I think the salary dumps will probably come from that level of good starter but it will more be the guys that are over paid (Tobias Harris, Middleton, etc) Wiggins ain't overpaid. Or, it will come where a team has some redundancy and can maybe stand to lose someone. Like, will the Celtics really hold onto Smart, D White, and Brogdon knowing Brown and Tatum will have huge paydays coming up?
Teams will do what the Nuggets did......have tons of borderline All Stars next to the Superstar. And hope one or two borderline AS turn into a legit All Star on cheaper contracts. Pile on younger talents while doing so.
Sounds like it's a great summer to have $60m in cap space. The value of absorbing a contract (thus the value of cap space) seems to have gone up with the new CBA. That's going to give us an advantage when looking for trade targets on teams that are imploding. Our draft pick will really change things. If we're drafting #1, I bet rim protection becomes less of a priority. If we're drafting #2 playmaking becomes less of a priority (if we draft Henderson). We're going to need shooters and I hope Udoka makes sure they can defend, that's the best use of our money.
Decline the option on Nix Trade Garuba for no incoming salary. That leaves you with $65,805,399 in practical cap space (assuming the #2 pick - more or less depending upon where you land in the lottery) Austin Reaves $28m Cam Johnson $20m Jakob Poeltl $18m ********************************* that spends your cap space. Room exception $6m to Tre Jones. Green / Jones / Tyty Reaves / KPJ / Christopher Johnson / Jabari / Eason / KMJ / Tate Jabari / Johnson / Eason / KMJ / Tate Poeltl / Sengun Plus your draft picks at X? & 20. That's a really good defensive roster that can also score at a high level. Sengun fans faint.
We can avoid the overpaid junk. Some rebuilding teams may actually be willing to move them into their cap space for the price of future picks. Our advantage is that we have a player in KJM that has actual value on a minuscule salary that might be able to facilitate a straight up swap for a decent player. It’s not something we have to do, so we can pick our spots.
It's really starting to look more and more like Harden will come back on some sort of deal. So, what if everything goes perfectly and we also land the top pick? Harden + Wemby is the only scenario in which I seriously consider making a major trade that involves giving up significant assets/flexibility. But I still want to stay relatively young, 25 and under if possible (except for Harden), to extend our window with Wemby as much as possible. I don't really believe Jaylen Brown or Mikal Bridges will be available this offseason. Brown will make All-NBA and re-sign with Boston. With Brooklyn there are ego and directional issues involved unless they make a total change in their front office (direction & staff). I think ultimately that prevents a deal, even though it might make sense for them to flip Bridges to us to get back their picks. So my more-realistic trade target is OG Anunoby; he was already almost traded at the deadline, and that was before Toronto sh** the bed in the play-in. Yes, the Raptors reportedly asked for a big haul from Memphis at the deadline, but bear in mind that Memphis first-rounders suck compared to our Brooklyn picks. I think it's possible we could get him without giving up a player like Green/Jabari/Sengun. Tari Eason + Clippers/Brooklyn picks might make some sense for them as they look to get younger and build around Barnes. It may take a big draft haul from us, but I think it could be worth as many as 3 first round picks given that we'll already have Wemby and a great group of high-upside prospects. In any case, we would need a great three-and-D wing to cover up for our perimeter defense problems and hit some open shots, and Anunoby is the best one that I think is a realistic get for us. In this scenario, I'm also looking to add one more rim protector to play behind Sengun. Wemby will already help a lot in that regard, but he doesn't want to play the 5, and honestly he is too wiry to bang in the post. But with Anunoby and Harden, we don't have much cap space left, so I'm going for a weird pull using our MLE space--Drew Eubanks. Good hustle guy, shotblocker, rebounder, defense has gotten better and more consistent this season. He'll probably only get around 15 minutes a game, but with Jabari, Wemby, and Sengun that's totally fine, and I think he's an upgrade over Garuba. So that gives us this 9-man rotation, with Jabari taking the lion's share of the backup minutes at the 4/5 and maybe a few at the 3: Harden/KPJ Green/KPJ Anunoby/KJ Martin Wemby/Jabari Sengun/Eubanks What say you, GARM?
one of the better trade posts I have seen. Not sure we will be able to get those guys at the money you’re proposing unless the lakers really don’t want to pay the luxury tax
I did the numbers on both teams recently - Here's the two posts showing the numbers: Both teams would be deep in the tax matching these figures. The Lakers would be in a different situation as Reaves is an Arenas FA meaning it would be a "Poison Pill Contract" they could pay no more than the NT-MLE in the first year with a 5% raise in year two with the rest coming due in the final two years, it would look something like for each team: Rockets: year 1 $28,000,000 year 2 $29,400,000 year 3 $30,870,000 year 4 $32,413,500 4 years $120,683,500 Lakers: year 1 $11,368,000 year 2 $11,936,400 year 3 $48,689,550 year 4 $48,689,550 The first two years appear to be a bargain for the Lakers but because they are repeaters, the bill on that contract assuming they keep Russell and Hachimura matching that $11,368,000 would cost them at least $32m and they'd still have more tax burden on top of that in simply filling out the roster which could push them ~$55m into the tax simply retaining their other FA's. Do the Lakers match the poison pill with $48.7m due in the final two seasons AND pay the tax now? Does Brooklyn match when it puts them deep into the repeater tax for a team who probably doesn't go .500?? I think it would be tough decisions for both teams - with the Lakers being cheap, I doubt they pay a 650% tax
Sengun/Poeltl ($20 mil) Jabari/Tari Tari Green/KPJ Harden ($35 mil)/ Javon Carter ($7 mil) Draft pick Trade everyone else for another core piece and vets We get the rim protector we need who fits our time window. We get two legit point guards who can facilitate and shoot. draft and/or trade to add more 3/4 depth, but I’m fine leaning on Jabari and Tari. of course this only makes sense if Wemby, Scoot and Amen are off the board by our pick.
