Sounds like a good litmus test of people to avoid when they complain about their favorite content not being available.

More people cut all the cords hopefully and go outside to talk to a neighbor once in awhile.

I still watch SNL, but haven't watched any late night talk shows since Letterman retired.

I was and will always be a LOF.

The last time this happened the Celebrity Apprentice got launched and we all know what that led to.

My wife is in an abusive relationship with SNL.

She got into it during the height of the late 90s/early 00s era (the last time it was remotely good).

She's been tuning in every week since I've known her (almost 10 years now) and I've seen her sit through dozens of episodes without laughing a single time. I have no idea why she still watches. It's like a junkie chasing a high.

I'm the same way, I suppose.

While I don't think anyone on the current cast has any potential to be the next Bill Murray or Adam Sandler, I do think it's a pretty good young cast (except for Bowen Yang, who has that Jimmy Fallon/Kate McKinnon syndrome where he thinks every sketch should revolve around him).

The musical acts have been HORRID, the worst I can ever remember in all my years watching the show. But the one thing you can always count on is Weekend Update.

That's what I tell my wife. Let me know when Weekend Update comes on. It's been the only routinely clever segment of the show for years, which is really sad because it is the least SNL part of SNL.

I watch the weekend updates on youtube and scroll through the other parts to see if something catches my eye.

and 100% agree that music has been terrible.

I like Seth Meyer's Closer Look youtube clips more than I like watching Daily Show or other similar political segments. Seems like a mix of better sourcing and random Weekend Update-like humor

Cold openings are still pretty solid, since they are mostly based on current events.

James Austin Johnson's Trump impression is GOLD. Best Trump impersonator I've ever seen. Even better than Baldwin's, which was surprisingly good.

I know, I know. I can't stop defending the show and I probably never will. I know it's not perfect, but there would be a HUGE void in the comedy world if it were ever to permanently go off the air, IMO.

I don't know, man, but reality tv seems to be the real world nowadays. Whackos everywhere. It's probably safer just to stay inside. And I really don't care about Hollywood/entertainment types/writers going on strike, tbh. Go read a book and lurn u sumthin', y'all.

Paying writers more will increase my HBO MAX subscription by an additional dollar per month. I need that dollar.

I'm with the writers. I don't care who the actors are, a good show is good because of the writing. And the last thing I want to watch is something written by AI.

Seriously they are starting to do this in music now. Fucs that! Good thing I still have my records and CDs. Only AI I want is the one giving me BJ.

Goes back to the thread about whether AI can make art. I think of art as an attempt at communication of meaning between an artist and an audience. To replace an artist with a computer might still feel like art to the audience until they know there is no human artist and therefore no meaning, giving it some nihilistic meta properties. And honestly, I think there is a similar dynamic with bjs. A bj is great when you feel like someone is wanting to give it to you, but if it's just a computer programmed to do it it's not really a bj, it's just masturbation.

There is still a dimension of craftsmanship and being able to do and make things with excellence. I think AI could be a great tool for writers and other artists in the making of art. But it needs to serve the artist who himself knows the craft and is making judgements on exactly how it works and what the finished products looks like. If you produce a tv show using AI to help write scripts, you still need a writer ultimately in control of the narrative and making artistic choices on how the story ultimately goes. If the producer wants to do that himself and not hire another person, he's the writer. And if the resulting story is unoriginal and pointless, it's still the writer's fault.

Are these the same writers that have been behind the latest batch of movies and shows...?

I've been on strike against their weak ass writing and overly sensitive make sure no one feels bad crap for years at this point.

I don't even care, writing has been ass for years. I rewatch Sopranos, The Wire, and Breaking Bad on a loop, and it's all I'll ever need.
