Imagine doing this and signing Harden and drafting Wemby lol. Harden/TyTy Green/FA Wemby/Tari/KMJ Jaren Jackson/Garuba Sengun I don't think rim protection would be much of an issue anymore... Of course, the alternative would be that Jabari becomes as good or better compared to JJ. It's just such a weird tweet by JJ - sounds like goodbye from Memphis.
For what it is worth In 2022 apparently only 1 NBA team lost money (the Nets). Franchise valuations at 2023 shows the Rockets as the 9th most valuable. ROI for Tilly appears to be plus 1 bill (and counting) https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/warriors/nbas-most-valuable-franchises-heading-2022-23-season They are trying to win games this year, but it isn't because they are going broke. And I doubt Stone tanked without permission
if Brooklyn won’t match $25 mil I’d sign Cam tomorrow, but I think it would take at least $30 mil for Brooklyn to get cold feet. I think Naz Reid is under contract with Minny for another year, no?
In his offseason guide for Brooklyn, Bobby Marks mentioned Brooklyn is just ~10 mil below the luxury tax. Said if they sign Cam Johnson to just an 18-20 mil contract, they’re going to be a first apron team, with the play-in as their ceiling. 25 mil should get the job done, but we can always twist the knife even further and front-load the contract to get it up to 30 mil the first couple years. Naz Reid is an UFA this summer. Could easily be had for the non-tax MLE at 10.5 mil. 6’9, can stretch the floor, and is only 23. Personally, I’m done with the 6’5 forwards (Tate, KJ) — so would prefer Naz over Grant Williams.
Tilman has said on multiple occasions that Stone came to him and said "here's the plan" when it came to tanking and the overall timeline. It was all about clearing the financial decks and accumulating early draft talent before the clock hit zero and they had to pay OKC. Stone has said he feels fortunate that Tilman let him go this route.
Would trading Tate, Tyty, Christopher, and KMJ not create like 10-12 million more in addition cap space? Even more if you add Garuba
All this talk about trades, not what this off-season is really about, can we not just get our championship jerseys back permanently?!
thanks for the source I just was reading another https://www.forbes.com/sites/mikeoz...ats-not-the-knicks-or-lakers/?sh=7f38aad11cce it’s interesting too . Look at how the value has shot up over the last 5 years . There’s also a blurb in there that Tilman has been taking money out of the rockets each year ! what tilman bought the rockets for , at the peak of James harden is now less than what an average nba team is worth . of course , these are just valuations . And every big sell boosts the numbers up
Do you think Udoka can turn Dillon Brooks into a better professional and player? Interesting if he's available cheap. Could give us useful depth if we can convince him to work on himself.
I was thinking about this too but I don't know if we need a guy so toxic his organization basically publicly told him to f*** off and die It would a better to have some good character guys who can mentor the young core, even if it costs a bit more money.
I haven’t really followed this story very much. If all he did was heckle Lebron and talk sh*t against him then I want him. The shot to the nuts looked like an accident to me and was probably embellished by James. What else is there that I’m not aware of? Seems like a good player to me.
He's been going on in the media about how he's not just a 3 and D guy and is "so much more". Seems to think he should get superstar treatment. He's a good defensive player (not all-defensive team level though imo), but he's extremely inefficient. Sub-40% from the field this season, sub-.500 TS%. Takes way too many bad shots.
A lot of it is kind of petty, but once you get a reputation… https://en.as.com/nba/a-complete-li...sies-draymond-klay-thompson-n/?outputType=amp
Yeah it's definitely not the guy you sign as a mentor, more of a redemption project where we can sign him cheap and then maybe increase his value a lot till he's a great asset or has changed to the point of being a keeper. When you don't NEED him and you can bench him when he steps out of line, I think that makes things easier. Contract offers disappearing will make things way easier too. I just wonder if Udoka can get through to him because if he improves his shot selection and his professionalism, he could be worth $15m per season but available much cheaper than that this summer. Would be a good idea to have some high character vets established as leaders first though for sure.
What I would do (not what I expect will happen). Presupposing Rockets get pick #2: Trades KPJ to Memphis for Tyus Jones and pick #25 Martin and Christopher to Indiana for picks #26 and #29 Garuba, pick #25 and pick #26 to Toronto for Thad Young and pick #13 Draft 1.2 - Henderson: CP3's brain in Westbrook's body? 1.13 - Dariq Whitehead: if his medicals check out I think he is a riser (especially if he measures closer to 6'8'' than 6'6'') 1.29 - Adem Bona: with connections to Green (prolific prep) and Sengun (Turkish NT) and what he brings defensively I think he's firmly on the radar Free Agents Sign Donte DiVencenzo, Grant Williams and DeAndre Jordan Henderson/Jones/Washington Green/DiVencenzo Eason/Tate/Whitehead (RGV) Smith/Williams/Young Sengun/Jordan/Bona (RGV) The backcourt is headlined by Henderson and Green with Jones and DiVencenzo providing some veteran guidance as TyTy develops into the backup combo guard. Eason and Smith provide 3&D from the front court. Williams is, essentially, PJ Tucker 2.0 and Whitehead develops in RGV to be a bench scorer down the road. Tate and Young provide some leadership to the young guys. Sengun will hopefully add an outside shot to his game this season to continue his development. Jordan is a rim runner and shot blocker off the pine. Bona can be guided by Udoka into some version of Robert Williams eventually replacing Jordan.
I beleive Udoka can get through him, together with the young players - improving shot selection and professionalism.
