CJ is going to be really good. He has a high ceiling and is a very safe prospect from the stand point of accuracy and anticipation throwing. Would be hard to know everything unless you were a fly on the wall. Clearly the Texans feel that Will Anderson is a better prospect than anything that will be there next year. I think that is the basis of the trade. If they have a offensive prospect like Marvin Harrison Jr. or Brock Bowers they really like, they may be able to get them with the Clevland Pick and some other draft capital. We will see.
I understand that Nick is trying to appease both the Owner and Demeco, but I really hate the trade. I like adding Will Anderson with the 2nd overall pick. But trading the 12th overall pick and next year's first was a big mistake. There are too many holes on the roster too think you can solve everything by picking a QB with the 2nd pick.
Ultimately the Texans had full control of 1 pick, 2. If they wanted their QB they had to do it there. It's been that all along. If they take Will at 2, #3 is auctioned off to Titans and Colts or Texans if they really wanted the QB. There was reporting last night that the Titans were trying hard to get #3 for CJ Stroud. The way to get Will Anderson and a QB was simple: Take the QB at 2.
The strategy I understand. The amount given to move up for a defensive player is what Im hung up on. Im good though Im hoping it all works out.
It's a lot to give up, I agree. They need to be right. I stick by my long held believe. Throw the value out the window. You picked a player, not a position. They loved him. They need to be right.
They probably would have given more to trade up for a QB. I like the strategy. We could have ended up with only 1 of the top 5.
I understand your point of view, but we did add about 8 free agents. Got some guys in trades, and there are 6 rounds left in the draft. I'm going glass half full. I don't mind giving up the picks for Anderson. A little less excited about Stroud. I hope I'm wrong on him.
Can’t live in a world of maybes. The Texans have been a joke for too long now. If we don’t start adding real talent now, when will we? Yes we overpaid. Am I happy that Caserio gave up so much? No. Am I happy with Anderson? You bet your ass. What good is constant complaining going to do? I will say this though…I still don’t think Caserio is the guy. Do we give up a little less if it’s someone else at GM? Not sure. I’m just tired of sucking and i’m tired of not adding guys to this roster who are an important part of the now and the future. The time to stop treading water is now.
Right now it's so hard to judge value. I think once the picks we gave up turn to hypothetical players we can do a better comparison.
Texans have 10 picks remaining this year and 10 next year (including a 1st rounder). They will also have the most cap space work with next offseason. That is plenty of resources to fill out the remaining holes.
Would you be hung up if they took Anderson first and then traded up for Stroud instead? I see it as a package deal, just that taking Stroud first eliminated other potential offers to the Cards.
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush is. We walked away two elite prospects after last night. We have a ton of picks over the next two years. The coaches can get a head start on building their philosophy and culture with this team from the ground up today, rather than potentially being able to next year. Anderson is better than any DE from next year and the best production wise this year.
I wasnt one of the guys who was willing to mortgage the future for CJ honestly, and if that meant that you would cause a bidding war where TENN had to give up an even bigger package and hurt them laterally then I would have been fine taking Will at 2 and then keeping the rest of the picks and going a different route at QB. It was obvious Caserio identified CJ as 'that guy' and so I respect him for that and will hope he is what they think he is. Still have holes at IOL, WR, CB, LB and now no 2nd rounder this year and down a 1st next year in what some forecast as a true star packed draft. I think they went all in on the wrong draft personally, but thats why I play with mock draft simulators and these guys do not. Im at peace with everything just looking at how much work still needs to be done.
Instead of looking at the "picks" traded for Anderson I'm looking at who the players might have been at 12 and 33 based on the board. So the question for me is would you rather have: CJ Stroud Will Anderson 4th round pick OR CJ Stroud Smith-Njigba/ Van Ness/ Christian Gonzalez/ Will McDonald IV Brian Branch/ Michael Mayer/ Darnell Washington/ John Michael Schmitz/ Joey Porter 1st round pick 2024 3rd round pick 2024 Anderson needs to be a stud AND the Texans can't be awful next season for this to make sense in my head. One thing is for sure. ZERO rooting for tanking next season. If the Cardinals end up with a top 5 pick from the Texans next year I will want Caserio fired.
