Colin Barber was mired in an 0-17 slump from the 12th to the 19th, but he's 2-4 tonight for Corpus, giving him a nice little 4-game hitting streak. He went 4-5 and drove in 4 yesterday afternoon.
Drew Gilbert now is up to .367 average and close to a 1.100 OPS in high A ball…. He has to be in AA very soon. He has 3 homers in 12 games… 3 stolen bases and outside of a high strikeout rate (for A+), he has done everything well. He has 5 doubles in 12 games as well… 12 runs and 10 rbi. He is playing CF about half the time and has an error. Again - he should advance fast if his K rate doesn’t balloon. The bat speed and ability to turn on pitching has been impressive.
As for Forest Whitley - this issue for him early this season is very simple - home runs. He has given up 4 homers in 16 innings this season. He also has oddly hit 5 batters. 7 of the 9 runs scored against Forest have been on homers.
And the other 2 runs scored when the guy who came in after him with 2 outs in the inning allowed them to score. It’s more likely then not he should have gotten out of that inning clean.
we talk about Whitley and what he could mea. To the Astros organization if he hits in the back half of our podcast. https://open.spotify.com/episode/4GfHgdFstp3lLKDSk3exFg?si=cKegkT-lSSWON7bRYCz7GA

With Gilbert headed to Corpus soon, I wonder when Loperfido gets promoted to SL. Maybe at 50 PA if he remains hot? ****, maybe he could potentially be a late season replacement for Hensley’s role if Hensley never puts it together.
He’s pounding the hell out of the ball, I remember hearing Dirden on a podcast saying he has the best approach in the system. Only 23 as well, seems like the obvious breakout prospect for this year.
Gilbert should allow the Astros to keep the train chugging along, even if Tucker chooses to rake the maximum contract in all of MLB in free agency. Nevertheless, it would be ideal if Tucker signs his long term contract with the Astros.
Joey Loperfido has an RBI groundout and a 2-run double for Corpus. So he's got 12 RBI in 6 games since his callup.
