Sample size. I don’t think Tari will end up being a better shooter than Jabari. Tari is also playing w second unit and against the second units most the time — so it’s not apples to apples in terms of defensive output. It’s one thing to take a one season look at an established player, it’s another to look at rookie seasons and presume the trend will continue. I’m happy with both of them and saw plenty of growth. Not sure why we all feel the need to denigrate our own players in order to lift our preferred player.

Dude Jabari came in as a shooter. A Klay Thompson. He shot 30%. Jabari got more minutes than any other rookie. A lot more than Tari.

If his shooting doesn't improve immensely over the next 2 seasons it won't look good.

I still think he has upside. But Tari's upside looks so much higher. He's doing things no player has ever done. At worst he looks like an OG Anunoby.

Add his playmaking ability is easily higher than Jabari even projecting out with age.

Again Harrison & Draymond's rookie year. Draymond started (he was in his 20s & a pick in the 30s) Harrison the teenager (pick 7) was benched. And here we are. The rockets made a mistake not doing the same. Two teams in the same position 10 years apart. One got it right the other went with reputation.

It’s not just draft position it is potential. Jabari is 4-5 inches taller than Tari. Jabari has beautiful form on his jump shot and his percentages became much better toward the end of the year when Silas actually started to utilize him correctly and he got used to the speed. Jabari also put on muscle in the off-season last year and will probably fill out an additional 20 lbs of muscle this off-season. I love Tari, but he doesn’t have anywhere the potential as Jabari. If we have a trade for Brown, I expect Tari to be a part of it, which I would hate. Jabari is pretty much untouchable this off-season unless you’re getting a youngish superstar like Luka.

I wouldn't say I was happy with Bari, but yes he's very young. But his shooting will need to improve next season. For a guy who came in as a 6'10 Klay Thompson. His shooting was expected to be 35%+ minimum. The scary thing is we now have a bigger sample size in the NBA than his time in college. No doubt it should improve. But the next Klay is probably not realistic anymore unfortunately.

    Not entirely

Started games when injuries hit & those were normally his best games.

Only argument I can see for not playing Tari more minutes is Victor.

I think it’s going to be too expensive to bring Jaylen Brown in, but I’ll give it a shot.

The Hawks are going to be $35m over the cap. They will be paying $170m for a .500 team that got bounced in the 1st round. They are scheduled to have a luxury tax bill of $14m. Because the Rockets have plenty of cap room, they don’t have to match salaries. If the Rockets offered KJM for Collins and Atlanta ‘s FRP (#15), it would give them a much cheaper replacement player for Collins and would save them close to $35m.

I would then offer Boston #15, #20, Jabari + KPJ for Brown. They get 2 FRPs this year, #3 overall from last year and a replacement SG/SF on a team friendly contract. Realistically, it’s probably going to take another future pick, but the framework is there. This also leaves the Rockets ~$34m in cap space to play with and fill any holes they have left.

You could get creative moving Tate and some smaller contracts to try to make room for Harden, but I honestly don’t think he’s coming. We’re just leverage.

In a worst-case scenario for the draft, I say we end up with Anthony Black. Then the team is:

    Black/Tyty
    Green/JC
    Brown/Tate
    Collins/Tari
    Sengun/Garuba

You can use the $34m to improve the team how you see fit. I’d target a vet PG and a sharpshooting wing.

Jabari reminds me of taller Tobias Harris (but can't shoot yet).

That's not actually an insult, Harris is effective playing off other stars.

Why are we helping the hawks and taking a redundant player?

I think Jabari could produce volume stats similar to Harris, but I expect him to be more efficient (i.e. he'll do it on fewer shot attempts). He'll probably also average twice as many blocks and another rebound or two.

Brown will stay in Boston unless he just despises it there.
