The only reason I ever disliked Willowbook, was because of the traffic (I lived in champions and that area on 1960 was a nightmare to get through (near Best Buy)). However, i would have to say Gessner/I-10 traffic is just as worse.
I hate the Galleria. Of course, I have little use for malls nowadays altogether. But, if I'm going to a mall, Galleria is several stops down the list. Terrible traffic, parking, walking, pricing. The ice rink is cool if it wasn't for their Olympic pretensions and their gaudy christmas trees.
First things first: BAYBROOK MALL BITES. There's TWO Dillard's and the world's crapiest Foleys...it used to be a Montgomery Ward! Then your other two anchors are Sears and Mervyns...I wouldn't go in either of those stores to save my life. Then there's the food court from hell. I am soooooooo glad I got out of that part of town so I don't have to go to that skanky mall anymore! Second: Memorial City has drastically improved. I just wish their Lord & Taylor wasn't horrid. The selection there is baaaaaaaad. The new Dillard's is really nice and they're getting a great selection of restaraunts...CPK, Panera, Denis'. Does anyone know if the rumors of Neiman Marcus moving over there are true? I think they've got a long lease in their building now and I heard they were planning to stay even when it turns into a medical facility. Third: Willowbrook Mall is busy as hell. It's damn near impossible to move in it on weekends. Waaaaaaaaaaaaay too many kiddies in there. Fourth: Does anyone give a crap that Michael Jackson was shopping there? I know I don't. Their whole story was about his bags going out the backdoor and some kid screaming that he's cool (the kid said the kid was cool, not Michael) and that Michael touched him. And then you hear the 13 producer scream to Michael "hey, did you hold that family hostage" and Michael turns around and gives him a big thumbs up. I see subpoena all over that piece of video. But seriously, does anyone really care that he was shopping? It was their LEAD story. That just shows you how much their trying to compete with Channel 2 (who's third in ratings) rather than actually report real news and compete with Channel 11 (who's first in ratings). It's just sad, sad, sad.
this story changes all the time. i hear that NM is happy where they are...but i don't know how long that can last. not that the mall, itself, was bringing them any additional business as of late! but there will be space when Lord & Taylor moves out. you know they're moving out, right? they're closing all their stores in Houston, i think. maybe even all their stores in texas.

I wonder how much he paid the girl to accompany him. Man who in the right mind want to date MJ? YUCK!
who gives a damn about which mall is da best??? What i wanna know is what dat fine lookin girl was doin wit jackson?
I bet MJ is packing 10 inches. No wonder hot women want to be with him all the time. Thats word from Lil Timmy.
They made that announcement about a year ago. However, it looks like they've had a change of heart. Right before they made the announcement they remodeled the Galleria store and had just built the Memorial City store. Those two stores have been very profitable for them...it was the Willowbrook store that they weren't happy with, but it was basically the place where clothes go to die. Lots of sources up at May Co.'s corporate think they're going to stay in the Houston market. There was a ton of public outcry to the announcement and they're giving it another try. i mean, what company announces they're closing, right after dumping millions of dollars into renovations/new structure, and then continues to ship new merchandise to those stores for nearly a year?
Willowbrook Mall and its surrounding boutiques (including the theater) suck because you can't walk two feet without bumping into some punk kids. Not that I ever go to the mall, but occaisionally (re: once every two months) I try to catch a flick over there. Its pointless. Kids crawling everywhere.
i thought it was funny at the time, too. particularly given the brand new store they built and stocked at Memorial City. but then again....that's a sunk cost. it's already done. if you're not making enough to justify sticking around, then you have to move on without looking at what you've already sunk in the market.
Yup, a lot of young tiddies there. Oh, my bad Kiddies. Plenty of Lohans, and Hilary Duffs, and Lizzie McGuire looking moms there. I havent been to Willowbrook Mall in the longest. I never could figure out why they have two Foleys. One foley has the furniture and mens crap, and the other foleys have the other crap in there. Theres no chicks at that foleys except for mommys, which isnt bad.
