Bc he's was warming and ready to go in, lest y'all forget that it was 2-1 with 2 outs in the bottom of the 8th. He had already revved the engine, so he might as well be used - especially with the day off tomorrow.
What a game! Best regular season game I can remember in a while. B. Abreu was f-ing nails → Luis Garcia's best friend tonight. Awesome, awesome, awesome job by the offense to scrap together with 2 outs in the bottom of the 8th, then Pena bringing it home. Awesome, awesome, awesome win.
I agree with you. He is an underrated athlete behind the plate. After some struggles with the mechanics on his throws, he has gotten them down and has been solid with the arm as well… at this point he is physically better than a 37 year old Maldonado. I know that consistency and focus and desire have been his issues in the minors. This year I haven’t heard anyone call him a cancer or jerk in the clubhouse… and I have heard compliments about his intelligence and instincts as a hitter and one of those guys that constantly has a bat in his hands away from practice… the issue is with preparation and how he does things. Im fairly optimistic based on what I have seen with my own eyes and the general demeanor of others working with him.
They get a LOT of rope because they do really well in the post season. I will admit though, I was hoping they would sign Wilson Contreras… and now I find myself hoping that if Diaz doesn’t take off - that they deal for someone at the deadline that can hit because the pitching just isn’t going to be as good this year and with McCormick and Pena likely improved and Abreu and Brantley added, if we get offense from the catchers spot, we will put up crooked numbers against just about anyone.
Abreu is coming along… he has a bad month or so just about every year. He had a great spring training and now is digging out of a slow start.
Hopefully flush him down the toilet? No, I’m sure they keep him but hopefully Pedro Leon pushes him out.
Garcia pitched a great game. His ball was moving, it was lively, and it wasn't hittable most of the night. Very good sign.

Yeah it's disappointing, it's April, we should all get over it. Personally I don't care as much about the W/L now, but trying to watch them play bad, sometimes very bad, baseball is an impediment to my fandom. They've spoiled me, and I demand satisfaction.
