There's a fantastic hardware store in Llano that's been around forever named Buttery Hardware https://www.butterycompany.com/ I still sometimes have to guess which way the R and E go
There's video somewhere around here of his delivery, which is/was the exact same as his older brother's. They were signed 1 year apart, iirc.
Michael Knorr and Andrew Taylor dominated for Fayetteville tonight. Knorr: 4 IP, H, 2 BB, 9 K Taylor: W, 4 IP, 3 H (solo HR), ER, BB, 11 K Ryan Clifford with yet another multi-hit outing for the Woodpeckers. He now has 4 2-hit games and 2 3-hit games.
Kenedy Corona goes deep again for Corpus (3-run): And Luis Santana with a grand slam. Aaron Brown allowed one hit, which was a solo homer, walked one, and struck out three over five solid innings.
If Andrew Taylor can develop a breaking ball and he grows into more velo, could be a number 2-3 guy. Throws strikes, has a changeup already, and a low 90s invisiball.
I'd be hell on the 28-40+ hardball league here in town if I could do the same. All I need is a new wrist and elbow, as it is I just change the grip and throw everything exactly alike at about 60-75 mph (depending on my mood), sometimes they go here, sometimes they go there...our catcher named my halfassed changeup/cutter/whatever the "troubleball"
Really really encouraging start to the year for Clifford. He stole his first base today as well. The strikeout rate seems driven by a more selective approach than a lack of bat to ball skills.
Clifford's just a giant 19/20yo manbaby...he's wrecking ****, but let's give him some time to grows up, and grows up and....
**** just got real. Crossing my fingers for a big league brother reunion in the near future. The Astros pitching development staff just might make it happen.
His frame and game remind me of young Freddie Freeman, obviously a really lofty comp for someone in single A but the potential is obvious.
Tracking all 5 young hitters (Clifford, Whitaker, Lorenzo, Gaston, Encarnacion) in Fayetteville closely. Gaston is the only one who has struggled so far, but that makes sense given he’s jumping from the DSL to full season stateside ball. Any of those guys will be big time prospects if theyre able to make it to Asheville this season and have some success there.
JC Correa is not a bad prospect. He is catching some bad luck and making some bad contact so far this season but he is very versatile defensively and only has a 13% k rate in AA. He won’t be a star or anything but it would not surprise me at all if he carved out a career something like what Willians Austudillo has done.
Dude, there is only one Tortuga. But to @IBTL's question: I have no idea, but I wouldn't expect much. It would be cool if he somehow, someday makes to Sugar Land and they can hang out when they're both in town. You never know, though, the Stros have a pretty good track record with development and/or reclamation projects.
Some google'ing shows a smattering of random awards, but I can't find anything scouting report wise. He was the Royals July POTM for the Complex League team in Aug '21, the ACL league pitcher of the month in July '21 and overall the Royals ACL league pitcher of the year in '21. Keep in mind he was age 21 in complex ball, probably older than the usual prospects in that league. His stats in A ball last year were straight ugly: 6.37 era and only a 7.6K/9. His only stat line saving grace was a not terrible walk rate.
