Hey CFans, Am thinking of taking the family somewhere for a week, last year we did an Alaskan cruise but this year I am thinking somewhere with a view, maybe some mountains or forest, and some stuff to do around. Maybe Branson, or Pigeon Forge? Anyone have any hidden fun areas to go to maybe driveable from Texas? Any suggestion is welcome. Thanks, DD
Taos. View, Mountains, Stuff, Drivable (crazy easy to fly though, Taos Air from ATX)...that's 4 checks Plus rivers, restaurants, fancy hotels, spas, hot springs, excursions....
Yes, wife and I did that a couple of years ago, I love it, casinos too.....and probably has VRBo cabins for families, will put it on the list. DD
Arkansas? White River area, Benton, Hot Springs? There's always Port A, Mustang Island, Padre National Seashore in Texas
Mountains and forest - Aspen Breckenridge Telluride, Yellowstone, SawtoothNF GlacierNP, OlympicNP, Tahoe, Ashville, RapidCity Or you could just rent an airbnb in Concan and drag out the tubes
Hope you've already got them rented. Great idea, though. Devil's River SNA is a lower-key version of that. If you don't mind a bit of swamp humidity this time of year, Caddo Lake SP is pretty amazing. Or hell, come up to Inks Lake and Longhorn Cavern SP, it's pretty brilliantly family friendly.
I am done with Tubes, I want to SWTSU and tubed the life out of me....no more..... I want something I can take my 20 and 24 year old boys, my wife and me and we can hang out drink, hopefully enjoy cooler evenings in July and if possible have some things to do around us like Ziplining or mountain coasters. Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg is on the list but it is like 2 days drive whereas Branson is only 1......we have done the Texas coast a ton, and we have done New Orleans, Alaska, and Padre...... So, looking for something to leave the 100 degree heat in Texas and maybe go up into the hills/moutains for cooler weather for a week. Also if we can drive it can cut costs a bit. Last year's Alaska cruise cost us over $25k total between Airfare, 2 cruise cabins and all the excursions etc....looking for a little more value this year, and my 2 boys refuse to room together again lol....one is a super snorer...... DD
Main Street Station in Breckenridge, lots of walkable drinking can be done down Main Street. Rocky Mountain National Park. It’s a long drive, but doable. Breathtaking views, scary as hell driving though.
It’s usually cheap to fly to Vegas, and the national parks in southern Utah are amazing. Bookend your trip in Vegas (good food, entertainment and casinos), then drive to St. George Utah (less than two hours from Vegas) for a base camp. Maybe Moab for another stay. Five amazing national parks.
Eureka Springs in north Arkansas, southern Ozarks. Gorgeous town with caverns, history, haunted hotels, unique architecture, great rock bottom rivers
lot’s of temples on mountains in southeast asia. like luangphrabang in laos, if tix cost isn’t an issue.
I would suggest Interlaken Switzerland in the summer. We have done it twice and I want to do it again. There are a ton of great hikes in the area, with good lot of them being entry level. I don't know if there are any comparable US destinations.
That Pigeon Forge seems fine for a fam. Roller Coasters, mountains, zip lines, Cracker Barrels. Missouri & Arkansas belong to the QANON now. GOOD LUCK.
Arkansas GOV be like, women cant drive and you have to go down on me to join the staff. Missouri be like, here's a gun child, public libraries ILLEGAL. GOOD LUCK
santa fe/taos/southern colorado. meow wolf in santa fe is fun for all ages. pagosa springs has some great geothermal hot springs you can hang out in all day/night. awesome hiking in the san juan mountains/weimenuche wilderness area.
