And why can't they turn it around this year? Altuve and Brantley will be back. Perhaps Whitney comes up and makes an impact. It's well known Bregman is a slow starter. Abreu has a track record. Over 162 this offense will be better than last years. 4 years in a row this team has started slow. We've been here before.
They aren’t back until May. And this schedule will get harder before then. Also, no Verlander or McCullers as of now. You can’t keep going into the season with multiple as in 3 plus, black holes in the lineup.
the difference this year is that the astros doesn't get to play against the oakland, angels, rangers, and mariners 12-15 games anymore. no longer the "oh, we'll just win games in our division". you play against everyone now. i'm curious how the astros will fare with this change.
So Chas is going blind now? And some of you shut up with "the sky is falling". It's making my bowels sick.
Astros offense is fine - they are scoring more than last year. Their 8 and 9 hitters have a combined 0.270ish BA and 0.770ish OPS. It's the pitching that has really fallen off so far. 2023: Run Scored / Game: 4.85; Runs Allowed: 4.21 2022: Run Scored / Game: 4.55; Runs Allowed: 3.20 McCullers and Whitley will have a chance to knock out the worst two pitchers in the rotation and push them to the bullpen, so I suspect the pitching will improve over time.
Comparing stats for 2 weeks vs a whole season isn't proper, right? Not disagreeing with you, just sayin'
