We have gone round and round on this discussionfor weeks. It has been very interesting. It has been informative. It's great to be in the accompany of many basketball fans and genious types in this forum. I think it is down to two people. Antonio Daniels and Damon Jones are in the finals. Now I would love to get a you talent with great potential like Hinrich, but I don't think that will happen. If you are the GM, who would you pick? Why? What are you thoughts?
id go with antonio daniels, i belive has a better assist to turnover ratio, a bit taller, and has more exp starting and running the point IMO. i wouldnt mind damon jones either, he has a great as/to ratio, and did alright in the playoffs, i also met him 2 days ago, great personality, i really liked talking to him, apparently he wants to come to houston IMO, ive said this earlier ill say it again, he told me to start a petition, so the rockets can sign him, get 2000 signitures and give it to the rockets gm, he dint know his name. id be happy with either
I've always advocated getting Daniels, but really, either would be good. I like that Jones is younger and is more of a catch-and-shoot guy (we'll need that in this offense), but Daniels being a superior handler, finisher, and defender makes him my pick.
I love Damon Jones, he is a GREAT guy, but he plays ZERO DEFENSE - NOTHING, NADA, ZIP! Yes he is a good shooter, but as JVG has said, it is difficult to be a good defensive team when your PG gets consistently taken off the dribble. This allows him to setup his teammates for easy buckets. I would rather give up SOME offense for a guy that can play better than average D.
Definately AD! He's 6'4"...boy, with he and T-Mac (6'8") as our backcourt, we'd give a lot of teams fits. AD can score, he's althletic, and from what I know he's a team player. I know he was very well liked when he was in San Antonio. I think he'd be the perfect fit. I'm just wondering if the Sonics would be willing to part with him.
Yes, getting Daniels would be really good. All we'd need then is Tyson Chandler to trot out this unbeatable line-up: Yao (7'5) Chandler (7'1) Boki (6'10) T-Mac (6'8) Daniels (6'4) That's a big team, and with a mix of zone and man, can be defensively DOMINANT. We'd need a firecracker scorer off the bench though, this team may have some trouble scoring beyond Yao and T-Mac. Wow, I really like that line-up.
Originally, I wasn't sure about Daniels, but I have come around recently. I always hoped, like many of us, that the Rockets could make a bigger splash in terms of getting PG via trade (Jaric, Hinrich, etc). It is obvious those options are going to be tough to acquire based on the player's staus on one's team and what the Rocket's have to offer. James or Jones would be ok, but I think if we can get a quality guy like Daniels with his cheap contract that will only cost us a season or two, it is a no brainer. He is a very good solution until we either make a deal to get someone better or one of our young guys steps in to take his place in a season or two. Danies has the defensive capabilities of James & the shooting of Jones, and is possibly more athletic then both. Get him!
I completely agree with everything mogrod said. Let me give some more evidence for all the people on the fence with AD. Daniels played significant minutes on the '99 Spurs Team. He did not put up great numbers, but he has more experience in involving great post players. As we all know, great post players need players to get them the ball. I think Daniels can do that for the Rockets during this season. He also has a short contract, and he will have the option to look at another pg next season. We will have more flexibility with Daniels versus Jones.
Plus, AD could very well be one of those PGs (Chauncy Billups, Avery Johnson, etc.) that play their best into their early 30's, thus solidifying the spot for years with this team. That was one thing I didn't like was Daniels' and some of the other guy's ages (I would have liked a younger guy to grow with the team), but PG just seems to be that position that alot of guys just don't fully get it until they are a veteran.
Your kidding right? Would that work? I mean thats like sending in a petition to MGM studios and asking them to sign on.......I dont know....Tori Spelling as their lead actress. Its seems like these people are business minded and a petition or not isnt going to change or sway their minds in any way. But thats one man's opinion. Just for the record though. If a petition would work, I would sign it to bring in Daniels.
