This was a great win, that defense in the 2nd half was electrifying! The bench brought it tonight and we were definitely lead by Alpi's performance. We might have put a real dent in Jokic' case for MVP over Embiid too. That defense was also just Rodman's energy in the building spurring us on.
So this win gets us the 7th pick instead of the 5th... who is the world-beater that you are so disappointed about missing out on at #5?
Right on OP! It was awesome to see our future core all play great against what some consider a championship contender. Sad part is that this place is so bipolar that when they play bad everyone complains and when they play well EVERYONE COMPLAINS!!!
Come on man, you can't tell me you wouldn't prefer #5 over #7. Ultimately these wins may not change anything .... but it does change the worst case outcome. It could mean the difference between Jarace Walker and Anthony Black.
I think if we see little more wins next year even with Atkinson assistant/ Udoka head coach maybe this place will calm down a bit. If the same roster was still here + draft whatever , like a lot of people stated maybe it is the coaching. I would hire both plus couple vet assistants they bring in. Brown and Harden is pipe dream. Need to get some vet players who can round out this team. Defense and less turnovers need to be corrected ASAP.
I don't have a clue which of those will be the better player. I'll trust Stone to do his homework and pick the one he likes. You never know when a Kawhi or Sengun is going to get unexpectedly pushed back to you. I actually think both players you mentioned have good odds of having better careers than VW. But VW is the pick this year. You either get him or you don't.
People act like we are going to be picking 7th instead of first over this win. Those two picks do not exist in the same reality. For us to pick 7th, four teams have to jump ahead of us. The odds of 4 teams jumping ahead of us is the same as if we had the worst record in the league. We haven't messed with that possibility at all. If we had the worst record, and 4 teams jumped ahead of us, we were only going to end up picking 5th. To be upset about this win means that you must have someone you are in love with at #5. Is 5 better than 7? Yes, in theory. But this is a year where everyone past #1 is a consolation prize. We accomplished what we needed to do.
There is people upset because they were told all this dread was for the sole purpose of getting Wemby. Since they have enduring so long, it is natural people feels strange winning if the public plan is other. We can all be rational about this too, appreciate the win and call the *****hit from the upper management.
if the sole purpose is getting wemby who is clearly going #1, then the rockets already solidified those chances at max. And those people upset are upset for no reason at all
I still think it is acceptable since most of the people don't get math or don't follow close enough to know the new lottery rules. And I would still say that people mad about it are wasting their time, because both casuals and "no maths" are going to exist until the end of times. And we did not even got into the actual mindset of our staff. Are you going to tell me your theory is someone in there said "let's play better tonight, no change on the odds"? I thought it was well established our leadership is clueless.
no because a team this young and in experienced was always going to be one of the worst teams in the league. that's just common sense
I thinmk some of us got wrapped up in the draft to fall no lower than 5 last year because we had the chance of losing that pick altogether. We needed those losses at the end of the year to protect our hold on that pick, not because it could fall another two spots and ruin our draft. Losing the pick is what could have ruined our draft. I'll put it this way: We have the best odds of getting pick #1. We have the best odds of getting pick #2. We have the best odds of getting pick #3. We have the best odds of getting pick #4. Our odds of getting those picks are exactly the same as Detroit's (or San Antonio's), so it doesn't matter. It's not until pick 5 that the odds change in Detroit's favor. They have the best odds at getting the 5th pick. But, if we beat them out and get that 5th pick instead of the worst-case scenario of pick 7, we still lost the lottery.
But this is the point in not potentially having a 6th or 7th pick. WIth the lower cap set at 5th pick, you don't worry about who gets pushed back to you - you just take whatever you want at the 5th pick, worst case. Not to mention, if you don't care between the 5th or 7th pick, then hey, trade back and pick up some future assets. If you don't care about going from the worst record in the league to the 3rd worst, you just said "I don't care that now we have about 1-in-3 chance of getting the #6 or #7" pick. In going from the 2nd worst to 3rd worst, you basically said "I don't care that we now have about the same chance to get #6 or #7 as we do Wembanyama". For me, one win against Denver wasn't worth all that. So what? Now we've turned a corner to recover the season? Or wait, we just got great momentum that will lead us into next year maybe? Or will we win out the rest of this season? If we just go back to sucking the rest of the season, were the wins against the Celtics, Lakers, and Nuggets pointless? Hopefully none of this matters and we end up with the French Freak.
I'm not even sure what is your point here. Whatever makes you happy dude. Its very hard to convince working adults there is something positive here but go ahead, I was honestly trying to save you some time.
