Sorta off topic but it speaks volumes that an nba prospect refused to work out for a team with the 2nd pick. It says a lot about our front office and culture when even college kids can see that it's a disaster. But people here believe the Rockets articles and numerous podcasts trashing them is a witch hunt lol. Kudos to Mobley though.
Conversely, it's only a matter of time before Jalen Green leads the league in scoring. I'm good with that decision.
Congrats! He would not be in that convo for sure if he was picked by the rockets. And we would not have seen 40 pt games every now and then.
Because Mobley is a better and more important defender. Mobley can cover players inside and outside as well, and often allows Allen to stay back defensively. Mobley is special defensively, he will be a multiple time All NBA Defensive team member. Offensively he has had to sacrifice a lot of development based on the Cavs offense first back court. You better get a franchise player if you pass on drafting a player like Mobley, let’s hope Green proves to be that type of player.
Steph Curry also refused to workout or even interview with the Golden State Warriors back in 2009, with hopes that he fell to the Knicks, of all teams. I think GS has done pretty well since then, but that's just my opinion. If Cleveland wins a title someday led by Mobley, and the Rockets end up cutting KPJ before picking up his 2024 option, it's going to be a fascinating narrative switch from the Harden trade, where it looked like Houston was able to mastermind stealing KPJ for nothing based on salary dumping Taurean Prince to Cleveland. Instead it leads to Mobley not wanting to play with KPJ in Houston, and landing up in Cleveland.
I wanted Mobley but It is what it is. We weren’t even supposed to get the pick. We got lucky to even get Green.
Not sure if I'd call it "sacrificing" so much as I'd call it "incapable". There's not much to Mobley offensively. Like the Raptors have discovered with Barnes this year. But yeah defensively he's a beast.
