My guess is they want Meyers in CF whenever Alvarez is in LF due to Meyers having more range than McCormick. Just a guess; the other consideration is who the opposing pitcher is. It’s possible they think Meyers will hit Cease better than McCormick.

If you watch the Stros on the Tube, it seems like King Tuck has a new best friend, it is not Uncle Mike. Maybe this is the Stros way of enticing him to sign an extension. Hopefully, Chas gets the start tomorrow on ring day.

I feel like Meyers hasn't had consecutive hits since that very small sample size a couple of years ago that his supporters keep clinging to. Flash in the pan prospects happen alllllll the time in baseball. I remember us even questioning his defensive, fielding, and throwing last season. He didn't look strong anywhere when he came back. I wish the best for him but Click staked his job on him and lost it....

 

And Click is gone, not Meyers.

FTR: I think it's a slap in the face to not give Chas the opening day start. He has totally earned it.

But I still think Meyers has the better year.

Give $43 a year to a 40 year old pitcher and 40 year old pitcher suffers an injury. That's not a jinx, that's just probability. I still like Verlander but I really hope this contract bites the Mets in the ass hard.

 

Opening day should be a national holiday - especially with the Astros coming in as f'ing World Series champions.
