Alperen Sengun is the Rockets' franchise player

I do believe there is some truth to it, ridiculous as it sounds and I might b even interpreting it wrong.

A lot of folks don't think sengun can succeed as a center b/c he doesn't fit the mold of the generic american centers we normally see. Tall, athletic, lob threat, defensive anchor. Sengun is clearly talented enough to b in the league, and just needs time to see if he has what it takes to do great.

I think a lot of casuals in the US aren't used to the foreign archtypes and their doubts/generic criticism of sengun can b seen as anti-foreign by sengun only fans.

A lot of folks doubting sengun game do get triggered by only fans, that's tru. The rhetoric from a few gets pretty heated when folks are discussing sengun

 

My claim is that when an international player has a lot of fans that are naturally defensive of their national hero, there are going to be many trolls looking to trigger them all at once. You gotta watch out for those guys.

Had them with Yao, have them with Alperen, and you see them at damn near every UFC forum on both sides. Happens a lot with a big international base.

Marc Gasol wasn’t athletic, but he played good enough defense to win DPOY. Brook Lopez is slow as hell and ground bound, but is in the running to win the award. Al Harford is 6'9' with a 7'0 wingspan but an elite defender. It's not about the size of the boat, it's about the motion of the ocean.

 

u can always find guys who aren’t at the top athletically or attribute wise that are good defenders…there’s Horford, there’s Draymond, there’s Chuck Hayes, etc
