I don't think this is actually fair at all. This isn't a "Both sides are more interested in being right than solving the problem" situation. Here, I'll engage. We can try whatever "Door reform" Republicans or Fox News thinks we need. If after a year it hasn't changed anything we get to try Democrat solutions. Or, we agree there is a mental health crisis. So whatever mental health solutions republicans are willing to vote yes for, I will support as well as long as they are funded and don't cut some other benefit. Truthfully though, this will never happen. Both sides may politicize these shootings for their benefit, but one side actually does try to offer up solutions. The other side just wants to delay and deflect until we move on.
Chris Christie tells Fox there are already enough laws to regulate guns, and says the focus should be on school security and mental health. 205 Republicans Vote Against Bill to Expand School Mental Health Services Republicans have spent months scapegoating mental health issues as a catch-all for problems like mass shootings. The Mental Health Matters Act passed 220 to 205 on a largely party line vote, with all 205 “no” votes coming from Republicans. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (Pennsylvania) cast the sole Republican “yes” vote. https://truthout.org/articles/205-r...bill-to-expand-school-mental-health-services/ Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said “We, as a state, we, as a society, need to do a better job with mental health … Anybody who shoots somebody else has a mental health challenge, period.” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has expressed a similar sentiment: “It seems to me there are two broad categories that underscore the problem, mental illness and school safety.” This is an absurd — yet familiar — analysis from Republicans that ignores the reasons why the United States uniquely struggles with mass shootings. If Republicans genuinely believe that mental illness is the driving force behind murderous rampages with high-powered weapons, then surely they should be anxious to support programs that help pay for mental health interventions, including things such as therapy, evaluations, making medicine more affordable, research on the causes and potential ways to ameliorate mental illness, supportive living facilities for people with mental illness and the rest of the panoply of programs this country desperately needs. https://www.nbcnews.com/think/opini...ns-mass-shootings-win-win-democrats-rcna32168
Greg Abbott makes Texas more dangerous. "These seven laws will protect the rights of law-abiding citizens and ensure that Texas remains a bastion of freedom. Thank you to the Texas Legislature for getting these bills to my desk." Senate Bill 19 (Schwertner/Capriglione) prohibits any governmental entity from contracting with any business that discriminates against firearm and ammunition businesses or organizations. Senate Bill 20 (Campbell/Hefner) allows guests to store firearms in their hotel rooms. Senate Bill 550 (Springer/Spiller) removes the shoulder or belt holster requirements, allowing Texans to carry firearms in whatever kind of holster they choose. House Bill 957 (Oliverson/Springer) repeals the criminal offense of possessing, manufacturing, transporting, or repairing a firearm silencer. It also ensures that any firearm suppressor manufactured in Texas, and that remains in Texas, will not be subject to federal law or federal regulation. House Bill 1500 (Hefner/Creighton) prevents any government entity from prohibiting the sale or transportation of firearms or ammunition during a declared disaster or emergency. House Bill 1927 (Schaefer/Schwertner) authorizes Constitutional Carry in Texas, meaning law-abiding Texans can legally carry a handgun without a license to carry. House Bill 2622 (Holland/Hall) makes Texas a Second Amendment Sanctuary State by protecting Texans from new federal gun control regulations. https://gov.texas.gov/news/post/governor-abbott-signs-second-amendment-legislation-into-law-2021
Them strict ass laws aren't helping Chicago and NYC. But I am willing to try them at the end of the day. It is heartbreaking.
Would be nice if we expanded Medicaid here in Texas which wouldn't cost a damn penny for us. Too bad both out Governor and LT don't give a **** about Texans, healthcare, or mental illness. Power and party over people...
Tough when the states next door have looser gun laws and can easily cross state lines. Texas and Florida have high violent crime and lax gun laws…. what is their excuse? Maybe we all need to just pray harder…..
The saddest part is I am becoming numb to these "events", we know that the US will not come together to figure out what the "right" laws should be, so for schools where this happens all too often do we beef up security to the point where you have armed guards and metal detectors ? I am talking about plain clothes cops so they "try" and blend in? Maybe its time to lock down our schools and have a TSA type entrance........but then I am sure people will complain about the cost and how its unfair to the kids to have to deal with that stigma but dam, we have to do something, this is far to common and the answer is so complicated. Guns are simply too easy to get, I think the toothpastes is out of the tube and its time to rethink our strategy It's like the war on drugs when I was in High School, no matter what laws they came up with we got around them and got what we wanted and now its legal in most states. Unless you confiscated guns (which will never happen) then this is a no-win situation, there are simply to many on the street illegally to combat this BS..........I dont know but what we're doing is not working, that's painfully obvious

Is it true that the shooter was a transgender male (so a biological female)? If so, then this is yet another mental health situation. That's where the dollars and policy response should go towards.
Trans women, targeted attack per PC Identified shooter as 28 year old Audrey Elizabeth Hale Investigations ongoing at Brightwood Ave. Have made contact with the father that lived at that residence. Maps drawn of school in detail of surveillance, entry points, etc. Shot through one of the doors to gain entry 3 adults, 3 children (two age 9, one age 8 about to be 9) She does identify as transgender
"Anybody who shoots somebody else has a mental health challenge, period." I agree with that statement. But wouldn't this incessant need to own the tools that do the actual shooting be a clue of mental illness?
