I'm going Embiid for the defense. Jokic racking up 10 assists per game at the 5 is pretty insane though, NGL. Just too big of a value differential on the other side of the court though.
You throwin up Lil Nas X vibes..hope Embiid replies your love emails one day. All good bro, you do you
With the way the narrative has shifted and with how strong Philly and Embiid is looking lately (7 straight wins close to the end of the season), this award might now actually be Embiid's to lose. At least, for the time being.
Yeah, Embiid is the favorite now and there’s nothing wrong with it. Jokic has a better case statistically, it appears, but who says an MVP award should be determined purely based on numbers? It’s good for the game to spread the award around a bit, and even if Jokic has a somewhat better case it’s close enough to where giving it to Embiid makes the most sense. The NBA doesn’t need accusations of racism flooding the sports talk airwaves with their awards.
Brooklyn Washington Milwaukee Philadelphia New Orleans Pheonix Golden State Houston Pheonix Utah Sacremento Man This ending going into the playoffs. . . COULD BE ROUGH 11 Games left and they could legit lose more than 7 Rocket River
That second story was so bad I couldn't get through it. As long as the media has any vote whatsoever, the MVP of the NBA will never be taken as seriously as other MVP's where the media has no say. With that said, at his level of production, the Joker will always be more valuable to his team than Embiid because of the way you need to construct a team around him to win. I still think Embiid should get the award this year though.
What makes the Joker more valuable again? The fact that you have to cover up for his defensive shortcomings?
Klutch sports has plants all over the nba media jokic has the wins and the stats. Pulling the race card is weak
I mean the real reason is because advanced statistics (still) do a poor job of capturing defensive contributions, although I'm sure guys like Morey have some kind of in-house voodoo magic stuff we don't have access to as fans. On that side of the ball, us plebs still largely have to fall back on the ol' eye test.
MVP race: Oddsmakers treating Giannis Antetokounmpo like the clear No. 3 and it's not really clear why https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/...-the-clear-no-3-and-its-not-really-clear-why/ Stats: close, but Giannis has slight edge with assists Team Records: Giannis, league best record with 2nd star Middleton OUT for most of season, which typically helps the MVP case. 18 of the past 30 MVPs had the best record. Availability: Milwaukee is 9-6 without Antetokounmpo. Philadelphia is 9-4 without Embiid. Denver is 3-5 without Jokic. Win Streaks: Giannis 9-0 at the start of season, 16-0 around all-star break. Embiid's recent 8-0 gained narrative momentum. Past-Playoff Success: Giannis is the only former champ among candidates; Embiid never even made the ECF yet, had the least playoff success. Embiid's only edge over others is being the scoring leader; nine of the past 30 scoring champions have won MVP On-off record: "Philadelphia has actually been significantly better with Embiid out since then, winning his bench minutes by 11.7 points per 100 possessions compared to the 4.2 they're winning Embiid's on-court minutes by. The Bucks are winning Antetokounmpo's bench minutes by 3.3 points per 100 possessions, but have dominated opponents by 10.2 points per 100 with him on the floor" "why bettors are leaning against Antetokounmpo. There's no clear answer. The obvious one is the dreaded idea of a "narrative" winner. Embiid is the two-time runner up, so there might be a belief among fans that voters will finally reward him."
I think after four straight MVPs, this year the Balkans take a break and pass it to Africa. Not for long, as Doncic and Sengun are coming up big to continue the Balkan dominance. Wen ‘murikan MVP again??? Harden the last one ever?
I don't think Jokic averaging 10 assists a game is that big of a deal, he has the ball all game long, he generally has a big slower player guarding him, don't get me wrong he is a very good offensive talent. But, I don't see him as an all time great - his defense is lousy - and has held that team back from advancing to the higher levels. So, while he is a great big fluffy offensive player, he is not an MVP for me. I see him as more of a product of today's game where playing defense is nearly impossible and you can initiate contact and it is on the defender, the game IMHO is broken. DD
