Yeah it’s dumb. I suspect they tried to make a non-gendered term out of it, when a lot of Spanish is gendered.
Some ultra progressives trying to create terminology because they overthink things and don't have better use of their time is far less worrisome than lawmakers trying to ban words for culture war points. But that's just me.
